Golf: Tiger Roars at Cog Hill

Tiger was awesome this past week at Cog Hill in the BMW Championship. So awesome that I’m not even sure if the remaining twenty-nine players with a shot to win the FedEx Cup Championship want to show up for the Tour Championship starting this Thursday.

Those guys should just pack it in and play a round of the Golden Tee video game instead of taking on El Tigre, who thumped everybody by finishing at -19 at Cog Hill this past Sunday, 8 strokes ahead of Australian Marc Leishman and Jim Furyk.

As if there ever was any doubt. right? Okay, maybe I was that guy last week, but rest assure, I’m back on the Tiger Train.

I mean, the player were talking about here is Mr. Eldrick “Tiger” Woods, the greatest athlete after Secretariat in my estimation to walk the find ground of this here planet we call Earth.

Then again, Tiger is not assured the FedEx Cup trophy just yet. Because a victory in a FedEx Cup event is worth 2,500 points, the four players behind Tiger in the FedEx Cup Standings could win the Cup with a victory outright at the Tour Championship.

Mathematically, every player teeing off at the Tour Champions this week has a chance to win the FedEx Cup but these four have the best chance as they can win the Cup no matter what Tiger does with a victory.

Here are the five that can win the FedEx Cup outright with a victory in the Tour Champions this week.

  1. Tiger Woods - - On Saturday he shot a -9 62 at Cog Hill to mentally destroy everyone else in the field. He’s awesome, but can he repeat it? At low golf odds in the sportsbook, I might be that guy again who tries to beat him.

  2. Steve Stricker - - He finished tied for 53 rd place at Cog Hill this past Sunday, but won two weeks ago in the Deutsche Bank and finished second three weeks ago in The Barclays. If he can get swing back in time for the Tour Championship, he can win it. He will be going off at nice odds in the golf sports book as well.

  3. Jim Furyk - - Fury usually wins a tournament a year. Wouldn’t it be something for him to win the Tour Championship and take home the 10 million bonus and the FedEx Cup trophy? He can do it and he isn’t afraid of Tiger, which is the first thing you have to do when chasing Mr. Woods.

  4. Zach Johnson - - He got himself into contention by finishing tied for 3 rd at -10 in the BMW Championship. If he can win the Tour Champions, his upward climb to the Top 10 in the world would be secure.

  5. Heath Slocum - - It turns out that The Barclays victory was a mirage. He didn’t do too badly by finishing at +3 in the BMW Championship, but he didn’t make the cut in the Deutsche Bank. Slocum has a shot but his odds in the BetUS online sportsbook, which no doubt will be around +7000 to +8500, will make him a huge underdog.
