PGA Preview - Tiger Hosts the AT&T National

When Tiger Woods throws a party, you better be on the guest list. And if you are one of the elite golfers invited to the AT&T National you better bring your “A” game because Tiger doesn't like to lose when his name and charity are plastered all over the event.

The best golfers in the world tee off at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland for the Fourth of July weekend tournament beginning Thursday.

Golf betting odds have host Tiger Woods priced as a +150 favorite to win the AT&T National. Woods is coming off a disappointing showing at the U.S. Open, where he couldn't find his stride with all the poor weather and stoppages in play. Tiger sat out last year's AT&T after undergoing knee surgery and says he is extra motivated to top the leaderboard this weekend.

His friend Jim Furyk is set at +1,200 to win the tournament outright. Furyk ended his streak of three Top-10 finishes when he tied for 34th at the U.S. Open. Before that, he was runner-up to Woods at the Memorial, but hasn't won a tournament since the 2007 Canadian Open. He's savvy enough not to press despite this drought and is a solid play to be there when Sunday rolls around.

Sitting at +1,600, American Hunter Mahan is red-hot heading to Bethesda. He finished tied for fourth at the Travelers Championship last week and tied for sixth alongside Woods at the U.S. Open. The heavy hitter finished last season's AT&T in 12th place after firing a 64 and a 68 in the final two days of the tournament.

Three golfers - Paul Casey, Sean O'Hair, and Anthony Kim - are priced at +2,000 to win this week's competition. Casey has been in a bit of a funk recently, missing the cut at the U.S. Open and finishing in the mid-60's at the Memorial at the beginning of June.

O'Hair is coming off an up-and-down week at the U.S. Open. He stumbled with a final round score of 79 to fall to 23rd place and then celebrated the birth of his third child a day later. O'Hair hasn't had much success since winning the Quail Hollow Championship back in May. His short game is his biggest weakness heading into the event.

Kim is the AT&T National defending champion. He totaled a tournament-best 12-under par last year, finishing with a score of 65 in the closing round. This season, Kim has yet to win a tournament and has just one Top-10 finish. A thumb injury slowed him down for most of this year but he says he is healthy heading into Thursday.

Veteran Vijay Singh is priced at +2,500 for the AT&T. Recently, he's been in the headlines more for his connection with accused financier Allen Stanford than his play on the course. This season, Singh has just two Top-10 finishes and has yet to top the leaderboard on the final day. He finished tied for 51st at the Travelers Championship last weekend and placed tied for 27th at the U.S. Open.

Canadian Mike Weir has +3,000 odds to win outright this weekend. Weir had a great start to the U.S. Open before shooting back-to-back scores of 74 in the final two days of the tournament. That gave the lefty two straight 10th-place finishes and improved his total to four Top 10's on the year. Weir might not be able to bash with some of the big swingers, but he is efficient on and around the green.
