With the annual Masters tournament getting under way earlier today, most regular golf bettors already have a firm grasp on some of the golfers who will almost assuredly find their way into the top 10 by the time the tournament ends on Sunday.
Sure, Tiger, Phil, Vijay and Ernie will likely be there at the very end, but what about the other spots in the top 10? Which golfers have the best chance of reaching that elite group?
Here are the answers to those questions bettors.
To Place in the Top 4
Tiger Woods -450
You’d have to be out of your mind to think Woods isn’t going to be in the top 10. Enough said.
Phil Mickelson +140
‘Lefty’ is another definite top 10 finisher here. Whether he can beat Woods out for the Green Jacket is another story altogether, but taking Mickelson to finish in the top 10 looks like a no-brainer.
Ernie Els +220
Els could actually win this tournament if he gets hot. At the very least, he should manage to play his way into a top 10 finish.
Vijay Singh +320
Maybe it’s me, but I always feel like Singh doesn’t get the proper amount of respect that he so rightfully deserves. The last player to hold the world’s number one ranking besides Woods is a shoo-in for a top 10 finish.
Okay bettors, this is where things get a little tricky. The five aforementioned players should manage to find their respective routes to a top 10 finish, but what about several outstanding players who are just on the fringe of sustained excellence? Here are my final five.
Justin Rose +1200
Rose has been striking the ball very well and could be in contention to win the tournament outright on Sunday. At the very least, I think Rose will somehow manage to find his way into the top 10. Besides, the +1200 return is worth the small investment.
Charles Howell III +800
If “Triple Sticks,” who is originally from the Augusta area, doesn’t put an undue amount of pressure of himself, Howell III could find himself in the thick of the hunt on the final day. At +800, the odds are certainly great on Howell.
Retief Goosen +500
Simply put, Goosen is long overdue for a bit of good luck – and far too talented to not make some sort of charge at the leaders in this tournament.
Jim Furyk +560
Furyk has rejuvenated his career and has been playing out of his mind since the start of the 2007 season. This veteran golfer knows all about pressure and, while others may succumb to it on the final day or two, Furyk won’t. Take Furyk to finish in the top 10.
Paul Casey +800
Casey may be the last name on this list, but he stands almost as good a chance of finishing in the top 10 as anyone. Sure, there are a couple of other players I could have possibly put on this list, but I genuinely believe that Casey can finish in the final 10.
Odds are for the entire tournament. All players are action. Other golfers are available upon request. Dead-Heat Rules apply.
