PGA Golf Odds - Zurich Classic of New Orleans

Boo Weekley picked up his first-ever PGA Tour victory at the Verizon Heritage on Monday afternoon, holding off Ernie Els with par-saving chips on each of the last two holes of the rain-delayed event. Now Weekley will be looking to make it two straight wins when he plays this week at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans at TPC Louisiana.

However, Weekley will have to contend with five past winners of this tournament, including defending champion Chris Couch and two-time winner Carlos Franco (1999 and 2000). Other past champions confirmed in the field for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans this week include Tim Petrovic (‘05), Steve Flesch (‘03), and David Toms (‘01).

Other notable golfers in the field at TPC Louisiana this week include Chris DiMarco, Mark Calcavecchia, Fred Funk, Jesper Parnevik, Charley Hoffman, and Steve Stricker.

So who do the oddsmakers like to win this tournament? Toms is the +1200 favorite, with DiMarco, Weekley, Lucas Glover, and Sean O’Hair tied for second on the list at +2500 odds. Stricker is currently listed at +2800 odds, while Calcavecchia is tied with three other golfers at +3000.

Here are the rest of the top contenders to win the tournament.

Meanwhile, Els will be hustling over to China this week to participate in the BMW Asian Open at the Tomson Pudong Golf Club in Shanghai. Having to finish the Verizon Heritage on Monday forced Els to arrive a day late for this event, but he has good reason to be optimistic about his chances – he easily won the tournament back in 2005.

In fact, Els went 26-under-par in the BMW Asian Open in 2005, to win the event by 13 shots. No wonder, then, that the oddsmakers have him tied with Retief Goosen as the +450 favorite to pick up a victory in Shanghai on Sunday. Paul Casey is next on the current odds list at +600, with Simon Dyson and Colin Montgomerie both at +2200 odds.

Miguel Angel Jimenez, the 2004 champion, is then sitting at +2500 odds to get his second Shanghai title, while defending champ Gonzalo Fernandez Castano is back at +6000 odds to score the repeat. The tournament (which has been run since only 2002) is sanctioned by both the Asian Tour and the European Tour, and has a total purse of $2.3 million. Here are the rest of the top odds to earn the victory at Tomson Pudong.
