Meanwhile, the European Tour will be staging the big-money BMW PGA Championship at the Wentworth Club near London this week. The English event has attracted many of the world’s top players this year, including Ernie Els (No. 5 in the current World Golf Ranking), Vijay Singh (No. 6), Henrik Stenson (No. 7), Retief Goosen (No. 9) and Luke Donald (No. 10).
Which one of those big guns has been listed as the tourney favorite?
That’d be Els, whom the BetUS.com sportsbook has pegged at +800 odds to win the 2007 BMW PGA Championship.
Singh is next on the odds list at +1100, followed by Donald, Goosen, Stenson, and Padraig Harrington (who are all at +1400 odds). 2006 champion David Howell is farther down the list at +4000 odds, while 2005 champ Angel Cabrera is listed at +3000. After this weekend, both the PGA Tour and the European Tour will stage two more events before converging at the 2007 US Open Championship.
The golfers of the PGA Tour will play in the Memorial Tournament in Dublin and the Stanford St. Jude Championship in Memphis before heading to Oakmont Country Club for the US Open from June 14-17. The golfers of the European Tour will compete in the Celtic Manor Wales Open next week, and then head to Fontana Golf Club for the BA-CA Golf Open.
