PGA Golf Betting - Crowne Plaza Preview

Bookmark and Share by Jeff Leyland

Lots of history this week as online betting and the PGA swing back into Texas for the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. It’s the 2nd longest running sports betting tournament on the PGA and has been rolling for more than 60 years; only the Masters at Augusta National has been around longer.

The field this week is filled with quality players including 8 of the top 25 in the world.

Rory Sabbatini won it last year in a playoff over Bernard Langer and Jim Furyk, the first three-man playoff in the event’s long history. On the first hole, they all safely hit the fairway with their drives and the green with their approaches. Jim Furyk had the first crack with a 34-foot putt for birdie, but missed. Sabbatini drained his 15-foot birdie putt, while Langer missed his short putt to give Sabbatini his 4th career win.

But don’t expect a repeat from the man who sports a shiny ugly belt buckle, Sabbatini is 28 to 1.

Jim Furyk is hungry from last year’s near win and is a safe bet at 10/1.

After a two-year absence from the Colonial, Phil Mickelson is back this and is the overall favorite at 8.5/1. Hefty lefty is looking for his second win of the season and is trying to squeeze out some more cash before Tiger Woods returns. This marks his 13th appearance at Colonial for Phil Mick.

Anthony Kim is back after a week off and with a win and a tie for second in his last 4 starts. Look for a strong performance from the youngster who is at 18/1 to win. He made his Colonial debut last year scoring 3 of 4 rounds in the 60’s including an opening 63, but he ended up tied for 18th.

Scott Verplank had the lead heading into the final round last year only to collapse with a 71 and in a tie for 7th. He makes a good sleeper pick at 55/1.

Kenny Perry is hoping bad things don’t come in threes and stands at a solid 22/1.

Perry was in the mix heading into the final round of The PLAYERS Championship last week but the on the first playoff hole he sent his approach into the pool without a bathing suit.

This week could be yet another almost win for the man they call KP, or else KP might soon stand for closest to playoff without winning.

Geoff Ogilvy is at 22/1 along with KJ Choi.

Dallas, Texas local Justin Leonard is always a feel good choice at the Colonial. Leonard hasn’t been in the winner’s box in a while but is a good pick at 35/1.

And don’t forget about Bubba, as in Bubba Watson; he’s a 75/1 long shot but possesses some great skills, it’s just whether he can pull it all together this weekend.

He leads the tour in driving average with 310 yards, but has yet to pick up his first PGA win with only one top-10 finish this year so far.

Veteran Tom Lehman could sneak into contention this weekend, and at 85/1, he’s a decent long shot pick.
