The PGA FedEx Cup Update – Tiger in for Barclays
by Tim Furious

Two years ago, Tiger made headlines by skipping The Barclays Tournament, the first leg of the FedEx Cup Tournament. He went on to win the inaugural PGA playoff, despite sitting out the tournament. Now the points have been tweaked, because the PGA Tour is simply gassed by the idea of not having their biggest draw on one of the tournaments. And besides, if Tiger backhanded the promoters of The Barclays again, it simply wouldn’t be kosher.
Tiger Woods is 1,276 points ahead in the FedEx Cup Standings with 3,431 points. He participated in just 13 PGA events this season after returning from reconstructive knee surgery. His 13 events are the lowest amount amongst any of the top-50 golfers on tour. Only Phil Mickelson has less than 15, managing 14 tourneys will helping his wife battle cancer. He finished with 11 top-10 finishes and five wins.
The PGA Tour was forced to amend the point distribution for the FedEx Cup so that big names like Tiger Woods will be forced to compete. FedEx Cup events will have point values five times greater than there counterparts during the regular tour. Tiger will still start the FedEx four-game gauntlet with more points as the definitive leader on tour, but should he crumble in the face of the big show like he did at The Open Championship and The PGA championship.
Steve Stricker is second overall, amassing 18 appearances for 2,155 points with eight top-10 finishes. He is the second-best golf on tour despite winning only the Crowne Plaza Invitational this year. Stricker is followed closely by Zach Johnson (2,019), Kenny Perry (1,993) and Lucas Glover (1,698). Phil Mickelson rounds out the top-5 with 1,630 points following closely by Y.E. Yang, the PGA Championship victor who has 1,621 points after competigng in 19 events this year and claiming four top-10 finishes.
I think I speak for the golf betting community when I say that Tiger’s appearance in next weekend’s Barclays Tournament is, “sucks to be you!”
