PGA FedEx Cup Betting – Welcome to the Pantheon, Vijay

by Tim Furious

Though Camilo Villegas won the prestigious BMW Championship this weekend, notching his very first PGA victory, Vijay Singh is still in the decisive lead in the FedEX Cup Standings. Singh finished 44th overall shooting 69 on the final day. However, he has all but solidified the second, annual FedEX Cup victory.

Cheers to Camilo Villegas on busting his PGA cherry. The win overshadowed an abysmal outing by Vijay and the rest of the field. When they head to Atlanta, Camilo will be in the hunt for another tournament victory like the rest, but it will be Vijay who takes home the spoils.

That’s $10 million of cold-hard cash that will be coming Singh’s way, which is quite a bit considering that he hasn’t played up to par in the last couple years. However, like the Red Sox and New York Football Giants at times, showing up in the playoffs is what matters most. Singh has proven his worth over the course of his career, and those that stuck with him through thick and thin are profiting in big ways off our PGA sportsbook betting.

Sergio Garcia and Villegas are the only two contenders that could seriously topple Vijay from the top. Vijay would essentially have to miss the cut and either of those two youngsters would have to win outright. Parlaying the likelihood of those two outcomes would be considered a long shot by any oddsmaker.

Anthony Kim and Jim Furyk tied for third and fell short of seriously challenging Singh for the title at the FedEX. However, those that took them to finish in the top-5 last weekend were rewarded. The third place finish for both men, however, placed them out of reach to win the FedEX. Now they can clean up the scraps.

The fact remains that whether you think the scoring for the FedEX is way off, which it is, Vijay this year, and Tiger last year, played at such an exceptional level above the rest that it’s hard to argue that either of them aren’t deserving. I dare you to try.

Golf is headed in the right direction, and the playoff scoring will be tweaked. If an upstart like Justin Rose won the FedEx Cup, then yes maybe the scoring can be called in to question. In the meantime, however, let’s praise PGA’s ironman heading in to Atlanta this weekend.

The only thing left to decide is whether Padraig Harrington, Tiger Woods or Vijay deserve to be named golfer of the year. Tiger made the season interesting, Padraig carried us through and Vijay stole the spotlight. Who are you going to take in our PGA betting futures?
