PGA FedEx Cup Analysis – Vijay Victorious Again
by BetUS Staff

Are you serious? Two years of mediocrity followed by this? Maybe the 45-year old was just playing possum and lulling the golf betting community in to a lull. Yet, with a stunning and profound victory at the Deutsche Bank Championship, Vijay Singh has put himself in position to run away with the FedEx Cup Championship.
The trophy comes accompanied with a cool $10 million purse. If you chose to side with Vijay in our golf betting futures, than he isn’t the only one profiting off his play.
After putting Sergio Garcia away at The Barclay’s two weeks ago, Vijay was able to fend off Canadian Mike Weir. Like a fine wine, Vijay brought his tournament win total to 34, with 22 of those wins coming after he turned 40. Those that doubt his physical capabilities have no right to question his mental tenacity.
That emotional and mental strength will be imperative when he heads in to the final two rounds of the FedEx Cup As the runaway leader. Singh has 120,500 points, which is well ahead of Garcia who has 108,275. Mike Weir is third with 106,965 points. Either of those men will have to win outright at this weekend’s BMW Championship to have a shot at Singh.
The pending golfer of the year, Padraig Harrington, ha stumbled to 44th overall with 99,000 points after missing the cut last week. These courses are just not well suited for the Irishman. I do not expect him to reward those that rallied behind him in the sportsbook. To give you an idea of how bad that is, Tiger Woods is 32nd overall and he hasn’t gotten off the couch in months.
The only thing perhaps more hilarious than that is Ian Poulter self-righteously blaming the media. Does anyone take this guy seriously?
Two guys you should consider are Jim Furyk, who is showing surprising signs of life, and Justin Leonard. They finished 4th and 5th in the Cup standings this weekend, and are making a strong push for Vijay’s assumed title.
Whomever you like, it’s almost insane to bet against Vijay in the long run. In the immediate future, bank on the guys that need to gain ground. Those include Sergio Garcia (I can’t believe I’m backing him up) and Justin Leonard. Those two, in my eyes, are the ones who are going in to the BMW Championship with the most on the line. A win there could catapult them if Vijay slips.
That’s a big “if” though. Respect your elders, kids. You never know when they can rise up and throttle you out of the blue.
