Golf Odds - Furyk Favored at Honda Classic

Henrik Stenson got the trophy last weekend in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, but it was Nick O’Hern that probably pulled off the biggest victory. O’Hern defeated Tiger Woods in 20 holes in the third round of that match-play tournament, and ended the tour winning streak of the world’s top golfer in the process.

O’Hern was subsequently knocked out by Stenson in the fourth round, and the Swede went on to defeat Trevor Immelman and Geoff Ogilvy en route to the tournament title. Ogilvy got the second-place prize, while Immelman beat Chad Campbell to finish third.

Stenson will be looking to keep the wins coming this weekend when he tees it up at the Honda Classic at the PGA National Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. And the oddsmakers like his chances against a second-rate field – but not enough to make him the favorite. Stenson is pegged at +1400 odds to win in Florida this weekend.

The tournament favorite, though, is Jim Furyk, who is listed at +700 odds. Furyk lost in 19 holes to Campbell in the second round of the Match Play Championship, and will be looking for a better result in the Honda Classic. Padraig Harrington and David Toms are tied for third at +1600 odds, with Robert Allenby at +1800, and Luke Donald at +2000.

And Donald knows what it takes to win this tournament – he’s the defending champion. Harrington is also a past winner of this event – he grabbed the trophy in 2005. Mark Calcavecchia, the champ back in 1998 and 1987, is also in the field this week but he’s listed at a longshot +7000 odds.
