Golf Odds - Blue Monster at Doral

Tiger Woods had a less-than-spectacular finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last weekend, with a string of bogeys on Sunday’s back nine dropping him well down the leaderboard. Instead, it was Vijay Singh who walked away with the victory at Bay Hill Club & Lodge; the native of Fiji ended up two shots ahead of runner-up Rocco Mediate.

But it’s still Woods who is listed as the favorite for this week’s tournament – the WGC-CA Championship at Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami, Florida. The oddsmakers at BetUS have Woods listed as a big +180 favorite for this event. And that should come as no surprise – Woods has won this tournament five of the seven times it has been held, including the last two in a row. Only Ernie Els and Mike Weir have also managed to win this tournament in its history; Els won in 2004, while Weir picked up the victory in 2000.

Els is listed at +1800 odds to win this time around, while Weir is pegged at +7000 odds. Of course, neither of those two golfers won this event at Doral. In fact, 2007 marks the first time the WGC-CA Championship will be held on the Miami course, and just the third time it will be held in the United States. Going forward, though, this tournament is slated to be played at the Blue Monster Course at Doral every year, and it will permanently replace the Ford Championship at Doral (which Woods won in both 2005 and 2006).

Singh is second on the current list at +1100 odds, with Phil Mickelson (+1400) and Jim Furyk (+1600) sitting behind him. Here are the rest of the odds for the top contenders. You will find odds for every player in the Futures/props section of the BetUS sportsbook, under Golf Futures & Props, then WGC CA Championship – To Win Outright.

If you think Woods will walk away with the tournament title and want to support some other golfers as well, you can also place a wager on those you think will pick up a Top-10 result this week. Woods, of course, is tops on that list at -650, while Singh is EVEN, Mickelson is at +125, and Furyk is at +145. Here are the other high odds for the Top 10.

For a bit more of a challenge, you can also wager on which golfers you think will pick up a Top-4 finish at the WGC-CA Championship. Woods again has the least-lucrative odds, at -275, while Singh is second at +220. Mickelson (+280), Furyk (+320), and Els (+360) are near the top of that list as well. Here are the other high odds for the Top 4.

The field for the WGC-CA Championship is pulled from the top of the current World Golf Rankings and last year’s money lists of each of the member tours (including the PGA Tour, European Tour, Asian Tour, Japanese Tour, PGA Tour of Australasia, and Sunshine Tour). Players in the Top 10 of the current FedEx Cup points list are also granted entry into the tournament. The purse for the WGC-CA Championship this year is $8,000,000.

Next week’s PGA Tour stop isn’t so exclusive – it’s the Shell Houston Open at the Redstone Golf Club Tournament Course in Humble, Texas.

However, many of the game’s top players will be skipping that event to rest up for the season’s first major tournament – The Masters – which will be contested from April 5-8 at Augusta National.
