Not all of the world's top golfers are in California for the Buick Invitational - many of them are instead competing in the Qatar Masters at the Doha Golf Club in Qatar. The European Tour event was won last year by Sweden's Henrik Stenson, and the BetUS oddsmakers have given him a good shot at repeating by listing him at just +1100 odds.
However, the Qatar Masters favorite is Ernie Els, pegged at +650. Els won this tournament against a weak field back in 2005, but should have a harder time picking up his second title this time around. Other top golfers taking part include Paul Casey (+1100), Retief Goosen (+1200), Sergio Garcia (+1400), Chris DiMarco (+2000), and Stuart Appleby (+2500). Here are all of the top contenders for the 2007 Qatar Masters:
Ernie Els +650
Paul Casey +1100
Henrik Stenson +1100
Retief Goosen +1200
Sergio Garcia +1400
Chris DiMarco +2000
Stuart Appleby +2500
Robert Karlsson +2500
Darren Clarke +3000
Miguel Angel Jimenez +3000
Nick O'Hern +3000
Lee Westwood +3000
Michael Campbell +4000
Nick Dougherty +4000
Niclas Fasth +4000
Johan Edfors +5000
Richard Green +5000
Bradley Dredge +6000
Thongchai Jaidee +6000
Jose Manuel Lara +6000
Jeev Mikha Singh +6000
Tiger Woods will join the top international golfers overseas next weekend - he's scheduled to compete in the Dubai Desert Classic at the Emirates Golf Club in the United Arab Emirates. Woods won that European Tour event last season, and will be looking for the repeat victory. Els was the winner in both 2005 and 2002. The PGA Tour will be staging the FBR Open at TPC Scottsdale down in Arizona next weekend, without the star power.
