Boxing Insider - Andrade seeks revenge on Bute
by Corey E
Boxing betting fans have been getting a healthy taste of revenge matches as of late. First, Chad Dawson solidified his 2008 victory with another over veteran Glen Johnson, then Golden Boy and DiBella Entertainment agreed upon a Juan Diaz vs. Paulie Malignaggi rematch after their controversial battle earlier this year.
But lost in the mix is one of the most intriguing matchups left on the 2009 list of boxing odds, as IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute takes on Librado Andrade.
Bute and Andrade took part in a controversial bout last October, characterized by a last second knockdown by Andrade, and Bute being saved by the bell. Immediately, cries came from the boxing scene, and Golden Boy Promotions that Bute had been saved by hometown Montreal, Quebec officials, and that the fight should have been stopped.
Had this happened, Andrade would be the champion right now, but instead, he must go all the way back to the beginning—which is exactly where he struggled. The Mexican warrior is an incredibly active fighter, and throws more punches than anyone in the upper-echelon of the super middleweight division. He sure isn't the most accurate fighter, but he wears his opponents down with constant movement and pressure. Short of a (official) knockout, Andrade's plan worked to perfection in the first bout, as Bute tired and was caught with a big punch in the final round.
However, the same could be said for Bute—his gameplan worked, if not for the final knockdown. Bute threw less, but landed more than Andrade, according to CompuBox statistics, in the first tilt. This is a typical night for the Romanian born, Quebec resident. There are few boxers at any weight class who can match the technical prowess of the slick southpaw, however, plenty who can match him in the power department. Bute has plenty of knockouts on his resume, however, when faced with top-level opposition such as Andrade and Sakio Bika, he has been forced to go the distance.
Ultimately, the best bet for those examining boxing lines on the BetUS sportsbook is to look at round totals. It is highly unlikely that Bute knocks the iron-chinned Andrade out. On the flip side, it is equally as unlikely that Bute makes the same mistake, wears himself out and allows himself to be caught with a haymaker late in the fight. The most logical result is a wide-margined decision for the more technically sound, slicker, hometown fighter.
