Wimbledon Betting – Grand Slam Tennis Wagering
by Eric Williams
Alright BetUS online tennis betting fanatics, the biggest grand slam tournament of the year – Wimbledon 2008 – moves into its quarterfinals round for both the men and women and online sports betting faithful have a multitude of solid tennis bankroll increasing wagering opportunities in the BetUS Sportsbook.
Federer, who is -225 to win Wimbledon in the BetUS Sportsbook, should be well-rested and the other side of the men’s draw is a slightly easier road and most expect Rafael Nadal to advance to the finals.
Nadal, who is +140 to win Wimbledon, will face Scotland’s Andy Murray, who could pull off an improbable upset against the fiery Spaniard as he has been playing what is likely the best tennis of his professional career.
Marat Safin and Feliciano Lopez will meet in the other quarterfinal matchup and both players are playing excellent tennis and offering solid odds in the BetUS Sportsbook with Safin at +2000 to win Wimbledon and Lopez at +5000.
For sports gambling fans that like dark horses or long shots, a red-hot Safin, despite his often temperamental behavior, or even the surprisingly agile Lopez, are good bets that could pay off in a big way.
The picture on the women’s side of Wimbledon field is a lot clearer, with both Venus and Serena Williams likely having relatively easy routes to the finals, though the younger of the talented pair – Serena – looks like she will have a bit of a tougher route to the finals, having to face my pre-tournament dark horse player, Agnieszka Radwanska, (+700 to win Wimbledon), followed likely by Nicole Vaidisova.
Although professional tennis has taken a back seat to the multitude of other now, more popular North American sports, take it from a regular player, the sport now features more talent on both tours than has been seen in quite some time, particularly on the women’s Sony Ericsson WTA Tour where the top eight players in the world genuinely have a legitimate shot at winning any tournament they enter, including Wimbledon.
Beginning with today’s women’s quarterfinals – the BetUS professional tennis online sports wagering community will get its fill of tennis action as the Men’s quarterfinals kick off of Wednesday, followed in quick succession by Thursday’s women’s semifinal rounds and Fridays’ men semis.
The 2008 Wimbledon Championship Finals get started with Saturday’s women’s Finals before concluding with Sunday’s men’s finals.
