Week 7 NFL Odds: Cardinals vs. Redskins
By Eric Williams
This week’s in-depth NFL betting preview article features a matchup between two teams that may fly under the radar on a lot of bettor’s respective betting screens this week. I've checked the matchups and up to date NFL odds, and this is one that won't get as much attention as it should.
The 3-3 Arizona Cardinals (+8.5), take on the 3-2 Washington Redskins (-8.5), in a Week 7 contest that will likely weigh heavily on each team’s postseason fates, even this early in the regular season. The current line favors Washington by 8.5 points.
The Cardinals are ranked 16th in overall offense, averaging 332 yards and just over 21 per game and features an offense that also has a nice balance to it as they are ranked 12th in passing and 17th in rushing.
Defensively, Arizona is also ranked 16th overall (17 pass, 16 run), allowing 328 yards and 22 points per game to their opponents.
The Washington Redskins are ranked 15th in overall offense, averaging 333.4 yards and 20.2 points per game. Washington is ranked 18th in overall passing but young quarterback Jason Campbell has a big time arm and has made several timely plays this season to help his team - even if his stats don’t show it right now. Washington is ranked 13th in overall rushing.
Washington has been fantastic on defense this season and is ranked third overall, allowing just 259 yards and a miniscule 13.8 points per game. The Skins are getting the job done equally well against both the run (where they are ranked sixth overall) and pass (fifth).
The Cardinals are coming into this game coming off a convincing 25-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers and 43-year-old quarterback Vinny Testaverde. Arizona can take solace in the fact that the loss came with third-string quarterback Tim Rattay replacing starter Kurt Warner who was injured early in the first quarter.
The Redskins are also coming into this affair coming off a loss, dropping a close encounter with the Green Bay Packers 17-14 when Packers safety Charles Woodson ran back a fumble 57 yards for the game-winning score.
A look at these key trends posted below seem to suggest a definite win by the Redskins, which is what I believe will happen. Factoring in Washington’s defense, the ‘Under’ becomes an attractive looking bet and the 8.5-point spread also gives the Cardinals a legitimate chance to cover.
Either way, this ‘under the radar’ matchup can be a money-maker in Week 7 and one I encourage all NFL bettors to take a long hard look at.
