NFL Wagering - Week 5 NFL Odds and Predictions

Wow, what a crazy past Sunday!  No less than 8 underdogs took it to the favorites in Week 4 of NFL Betting action.  That sets this weekend up as one to watch closely!

Don’t expect to get the same results as last Sunday, though, because some of the teams that were banged-up may get healthy.

Let’s take a look at some key NFL match-ups this weekend:

Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay PackersThe BetUS line in this game is Green Bay –3.5 against the spread at home versus the Bears.  If the Bears don’t get any healthier on the defensive side, then giving up the 3.5 to a Brett Favre-led team against the Bears is next to nothing.  Favre always finds a way to beat the Bears and this time he’s got a great defense and good skill players to go with him.  The trends always favor Brett Favre against the Bears at home.  The Packers cover this spread.

Carolina Panthers vs. New Orleans SaintsAs crazy as it sounds if the 0–3 Saints win this game, they will be in second place in the NFC South.  In fact, they will be in second place to get a wild-card berth.  Why?  Because the NFC Conference is just horrid after the Dallas Cowboys!  The BetUS line in this game is New Orleans –3 at home versus the Carolina Panthers.  This could be an easy one to call.  If Carolina quarterback, Jake Delhomme, is able to play the Saints probably lose outright.  If Delhomme does not and the Panthers once again have to rely on David Carr, then the Saints probably win.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Indianapolis ColtsWithout a doubt this a watershed game for the Bucs.  So far, they have won against banged-up teams like Carolina, teams that just can’t get it together like New Orleans, and a St. Louis team without a real offensive line.  How good are the Bucs?  Odds-makers don’t believe in them yet!

The BetUS line in this game is Tampa Bay +11 on the road against the spread.  The only trend to look at in this one is that Indianapolis virtually covers every spread at home when they are the favorites against a poor passing team.  The Bucs are definitely a poor passing team and, now, they aren’t such a great running team either without Cadillac Williams.  The Colts will take this one in a romp.

San Diego Chargers vs. Denver BroncosYou can’t feel good when you are playing at home and the fans start chanting your ex-coach’s name.  The fans in San Diego did just that as the Chargers found a way to not only give up a ten point lead versus Kansas City in the second half of their game, but also to lose outright.  Charger fans will have to scream, “Marty!  Marty!  Marty!” at their television sets this weekend as the Bolts travel to Denver to take on the Broncos.

The Broncos just aren’t very good defensively and quarterback Jay Cutler hasn’t developed to the point of being a true NFL starter yet.  The Chargers, meanwhile, have no wide receivers, no defensive backs, and a coach who just can’t get his team to play at a high level.  Every trend points to the Broncos.  The BetUS line in this game is Denver –1.5 against the spread.  Forget about it.  The Broncos will win outright and the Chargers will drop to 1-4.

New Yorks Jets vs. New York GiantsWow, can Tom Coughlin coach or what?  Say whatever you want about the man - - he gets the G-men to play!  New York’s a funny town.  In the beginning of the year, the Jets had the “Mangenius” and the Giants had a guy with one foot out the door.  Now?  The Jets look like a team ready to implode and the Giants might be the second best team in the NFC.  Such is life in the Big Apple!

No real trends to speak of in this game except maybe the one that says the Giants really played the 4-0 Cowboys tough and beat both Washington and Philadelphia in their past two games.  The Jets shouldn’t put up much of a fight.  All of the good feelings are going to the Giants right now.  The BetUs line is New York Giants –3.5 against the spread.  They should cover that.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Pittsburgh Steelers:  A re-match of the 2005 – 2006 Super Bowl with virtually the same betting line.  In that Super Bowl, Pittsburgh was a 5 point favorite.  The BetUS line in this game is Pittsburgh –5.5 against the spread.

The outcome should be the same as well with Hines Ward getting healthier for the Steelers and the Seahawks playing okay but not great.  The Steelers are tough at home and rarely lose two games in a row.  The Steelers will bounce back.
