Miami Dolphins (0-4) vs. Houston Texans (2-2)

Sunday, October 7th --- Reliant Stadium, Houston --- 1:00pm EST

Opening NFL Line: Houston -5.5 (42)

Matt Schaub’s unceremonious return to Atlanta didn’t go so well. Luckily he returns to the comforts of home to face a winless Miami team that hasn’t won a game, while going 0-2-2 ATS. Miami’s offensive line has been killing them, but their stalwart defense is nowhere to be found. They let Daunte Culpepper score five touchdowns on them last week.

It’s no secret that the lone bright spot for Miami has been Ronnie Brown who has helped Miami to a 95.0 rushing yards

average. But with the porous defense allowing 344.3 yards against, these guys simply don’t stand a chance in the NFL.

The Texans are a sound, efficient, football team with a stout defense that only gives up 80.0 yards on the ground. The front seven in Houston are starting to impress critics who have lambasted this team for years. Bet on the Texans in this game, and count on Matt Schaub and the Texans continuing their fine 3-1 ATS record.

NFL Free Pick: Miami 10 Houston 21

Carolina Panthers (2-2) vs. New Orleans Saints (0-3)

Sunday, October 7th --- Superdome, New Orleans --- 1:00pm EST

Opening NFL Line: New Orleans -3 (45)

The Saints have surely spent the bye week agonizing over game film and trying to figure out why their rushing attack, which is ranked 29th in the league with 79.7 yards per game, is sputtering. The loss of their power back, Deuce McAllister, certainly doesn’t help matters much.

What does help, is playing the Carolina Panthers who learned the hard way that David Carr is as bad as everyone thought he was. Carolina seems directionless at this point in the season, unless you count “lottery pick” as a destination. Their offense ranks 20th in the league and manages 20.5 points per game.

Sean Payton is a good coach and can survive in the NFL without the so-called magic of last season. The Saints aren’t nearly as good as advertised, but they are a solid team and have had two weeks to retool their offense and cool the fiery tempers of quarterback Drew Brees and tailback Reggie Bush.

It will be interesting to see how Reggie Bush fares shouldering the load in New Orleans. But this team, which has gone winless against the spread all year, will certainly turn things around against a listless Carolina team with no heart. The Saints have a massive hole to climb out of, but the Saints’ march in to the playoff race will start with a smackdown of Carolina.

NFL Free Pick: Carolina 14 New Orleans 24

Seattle Seahawks (2-2) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1)

Sunday, October 7th --- Heinz Field, Pittsburgh --- 1:00pm EST

Opening NFL Line: Pittsburgh -6 (39)

The last time these team’s played, the Steelers embarrassed the Seahawks in the Superbowl. There have been a few changes, but the Seahawks would love nothing more than to get revenge on Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers for that loss. But, as they say, history has a bad habit of repeating itself.

The Steelers loss to Arizona last weekend was a major hiccup that the Steelers will get over. They understand that Wisenhunt and Grimm knew the ins and outs of their team, and that gave Arizona a decisive edge in the contest. Mike Holmgren will not have that same advantage.

The Seattle offense is predicated on their seventh ranked passing offense, which amasses 249.5 yards per game. Matt Hasslebeck is a smart quarterback who spreads the ball around efficiently and is able to take the pressure off of Shaun Alexander. But the Steelers defense is stingy through the air allowing only 177.3 yards per game. Troy Polamalu will get inside Hasselbeck’s helmet all day, giving the efficient passer fits.

Last week was a fluke win for the Cardinals, so the NFL betting faithful can keep their money safe with the Steelers who are 3-1 ATS. Take Pittsburgh safely as they prove that their Superbowl victory was no fluke and that they are, without a doubt, one of the top teams in the NFL.

NFL Free Pick: Seattle 21 Pittsburgh 28

Arizona Cardinals (2-2) vs. St. Louis Rams (0-4)

Sunday, October 7th --- Edwards Jones Dome, St. Louis --- 1:00pm EST

Opening NFL Line: Arizona -1 (40.5)

Even with Anquan Boldin on the bench nursing injuries, the Cardinals will have zero problems handling this awful, awful, awful St. Louis Rams team. The Cardinals got a huge boost of confidence when they upset the favored Steelers last week.

Wisenhunt is known for his creative offensive schemes, and rolling a quarterback-by-committee offense on to the field is about as imaginative as you can get. But it’s obviously working and it’s taking some serious pressure off of Matt Leinart who struggled at the beginning of the season.

The Rams have benched Marc Bulger in order to protect him from any more hits to his already battered ribs. Instead, they’re sending Gus Ferrotte out to slaughter, who has no chance of succeeding behind this offensive line. The Cardinals have a decent passing defense and Adrian Wilson will be torturing Ferrotte all day long.

The Cardinals have rewarded their betting investors by going 3-0-1 ATS this season. Expect that trend to continue as they get to beat up on the new NFL punching bag in their own backyard.

NFL Free Pick: Arizona 27 St. Louis 6

Detroit Lions (3-1) vs. Washington Redskins (2-1)

Sunday, October 7th --- FedEx Field, Washington --- 1:00pm EST

Opening NFL Line: Washington -4.5 (45)

The Lions are a tough team to figure out because they can get absolutely demolished by a terrible Philadelphia Eagles team one week, and then turn around and smack around the Chicago Bears 37-27. The Redskins defense will be much tougher for Jon Kitna to throw against. That entire secondary is ball hungry, but they will be facing a quartet of very talented receivers led by Roy Williams.

The key for the Redskins will be getting the ball into the hands of Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts. The offensive line has done a great job of opening up gaps as Washington averages 134.3 yards per game on the ground. Look for more of the same as they go up against Detroit’s 17th ranked rush defense.

As much as Detroit is a fun team to bet on, they are streaky and untrustworthy. This Redskins team really knows how to take care of business and Jason Campbell is doing a fine job of commanding the offense.

The front four for Detroit will frustrate the Redskins at times, but Gibbs is too close-minded to take his foot of the pedal of the rushing attack. Clinton Portis will be the difference in an entertaining game that will put the unheralded Redskins in to the public eye of the betting community.

NFL Free Pick: Washington 30 Detroit 23

Atlanta Falcons (1-3) vs. Tennessee Titans (2-1)

Sunday, October 7th --- LP Field, Nashville --- 1:00pm EST

Opening NFL Line: Tennessee -9 (39.5)

Atlanta is starting to show signs of life under Joey Harrington. I can’t believe I just wrote that sentence. One win is certainly nothing for the Falcons betting faithful to get too excited abut, especially with the spread beating Titans next on the schedule.

The oddsmakers have gotten wise to Tennessee and Vince Young. The nine point spread may be even too much for VY to break past. The Titans average 21.3 points per game and are up against a team that is simply terrible on defense. Vince will find room to run and throw against a defense that allows 344.1 yards per game.

Atlanta will be able to keep this game close. The front seven of Tennessee are brutally aggressive and will put the clamps on Jerious Norwood and Warrick Dunn, but their secondary allows 238.3 yards per game. Joey can hurt them through the air. I can’t believe I wrote that sentence either.

The Titans play fantastically at home, and are coming off a bye week, but they have been unable to breakaway from opponents. The Falcons are starting to fly right, so bet on the Falcons to cover.

NFL Free Pick: Atlanta 21 Tennessee 27

New York Jets (1-3) vs. New York Giants (2-2)

Sunday, October 7th --- Giants Stadium, New York --- 1:00pm EST

Opening NFL Line: NYG -3.5 (41.5)

How often does the visiting team get to play at their home field? The battle of New York is set to pit two mediocre and underachieving squads against each other. The massively weak arm of Chad Pennington clashes with the sputtering potential of Eli Manning! Get excited!

The Jets are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Buffalo Bills while the Giants were able to stomp Donavan McNabb into the ground on prime time. Are you really going to feel like your hard earned, football betting cash is safe with Mangini after he lost to the lowly Bills? Not a chance.

The Giants front four won’t have the a sack frenzy like they did last Sunday, but their confidence has to be soaring through the roof right now. Chad Pennington is not a mobile quarterback (duh!) and has not played well at all this season. He has a meager 582 yards with 5 touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Jets have never beaten the Giants, a trend that the betting community should not ignore. Manning and Plaxico Burress are blowing up the scoreboard and the Jets secondary is practically useless. They allow 253.0 yards per game, and Eli Manning will get plenty of chances to beat them through the air.

The Giants are a team on the way up, and the Jets are sinking fast. The Giants beat the Jets in every important statistical category, so you can rest at ease with your betting money in their capable hands.

NFL Free Pick: NYJ 13 NYG 24

Cleveland Browns (2-2) vs. New England Patriots (4-0)

Sunday, October 7th --- Gillette Stadium, Foxborough --- 1:00pm EST

Opening NFL Line: -14 (47.5)

The Browns are coming off a rousing victory over the Baltimore Ravens and now they have to face the best team in the league. Talk about momentum killers. The Browns are a likeable team. Their defense is crafty and opportunistic, and Derek Anderson is leading these underdogs through a whirlwind season. But there is no way in hell they are beating Patriots.

Making matters worse for the upstart Browns, who have gone 3-1 ATS, is the fact that Rodney Harrison returns to the lineup this week for the Patriots. New England already has the most intimidating rush defense in the league. Now they have the hardest hitting safety in the league back too. That’s not good news for Jamal Lewis.

And what more can I say about Tom Brady and Randy Moss? They look unstoppable. As it stands right now, there is no secondary in the league that could hope to contain them. Along with betting on the Patriots to win this game, you should hit up our NFL futures and bet on the NFL MVP. Brady and Moss are the leaders at this point, with Moss being an attractive underdog.

NFL Free Pick: Cleveland 10 New England 35

Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1) vs. Kansas City Chiefs (2-2)

Sunday, October 7th --- Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City --- 1:00pm EST

Opening NFL Line: Jacksonville -1 (34.5)

Don’t look now but here come the Chiefs! With Dwayne Bowe’s campaign for rookie of the year turning the offense around in KC, the Chiefs are snappy underdogs as they host the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday. Bowe and Tony Gonzalez are becoming a formidable receiving tandem in the league after they smoked the Chargers last week.

The Jaguars did not look that good going into their week four bye. Sure they beat a bad Broncos team on the road. Big deal. David Garrard has looked shaky in the pocket and Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew have yet to find the endzone this year. Kansas City’s rush defense has actually been surprisingly good, allowing only 118.0 yards per game. Looks like it will be another long day for Mojo and the ageless Fred Taylor.

Meanwhile, Damon Huard looks like he’s shaken off whatever spell was plaguing him at the onset of this season. He played a scintillating second half and finished last week’s game with 284 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions. The Jags have an excellent rushing defense, but will have their hands full with Larry Johnson who is out to prove that the Curse of 370 doesn’t exist.

It’s hard to gauge this game because nobody knows what the Jags are going to do differently coming out of the bye week. But everyone saw how KC handled San Diego last week, and that should be enough for the betting investor to take the Chiefs in another upset over an over hyped Jaguars team.

NFL Free Pick: Jacksonville 20 Kansas City 24
