Week 3 NFL Odds - Betting On The Home Dogs – BetUS Sportsbook

Only two favorites covered the spread last week but one of them happened to be the Dallas Cowboys, as the home-dog Miami Dolphins were unable to show up at home. Here’s a look at this week’s three home dogs and their prospects in Week 3 of NFL wagering and football lines action:

Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans (+7)

This is an interesting NFL betting matchup which has a little kick to it now that Andre Johnson, the Houston Texans top receiving threat, will miss the game.

The line hasn’t moved much even though he is listed as doubtful, mostly because the Texans beat Indianapolis last year with inferior weapons.

Expect the Texans to run the ball a lot, like they did in the last meeting, in an effort to keep the Indianapolis Colts offense off the field. The Texans defense isn’t necessarily better this time around talent-wise, but they are playing like a much more confident unit.

Texans left tackle, Eric Winston, shutdown Julius Peppers last week on the road and his task will be equally as difficult this week against Dwight Freeney. If he can neutralize him, the Texans should be able to move the ball on the ground with Ron Dayne and Ahman Green and stay within arms-reach of the Colts.

NFL Free Pick: Houston Texans

San Diego Chargers @ Green Bay Packers (+4.5)

The San Diego Chargers are basically favored on reputation this week as they face their second NFC North team in three weeks.

To be honest, though, Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers hasn’t played a solid game since last October and he heads into Lambeau this week. The Packers defense has been impressive to date this season but will get a stiff test with LaDainian Tomlinson this week.

The Packers are simply overmatched here, particularly with their offense going up against a stinging Chargers defense. The Packers will accomplish nothing on the ground and put the burden on Brett Favre’s shoulders. Look for him to cough up a couple of turnovers after looking stellar in the previous two weeks.

Whoever gets the turnovers will win and the Chargers, who got burned badly on national television last week, will want to prove that they are better than that.

NFL Free Pick: San Diego Chargers

Carolina Panthers @ Atlanta Falcons (+4.5)

The Jekyll and Hyde of the NFC heads into Atlanta in what used to be a difficult matchup for them. Michael Vick had their number but now they don’t have to deal with him.

The key for the Panthers in the first two weeks of the season has been their running game. When it is working, they can compete (see: Week 1). When it is shutdown, the Panthers become one-dimensional and unproductive (see: Week 2). Atlanta’s run defense is ranked 23rd and DeShaun Foster loves playing against the Falcons. He has 452 rushing yards and two touchdowns in his last four contests versus Atlanta.

NFL Free Pick: Carolina Panthers
