The San Diego Chargers and New England Patriots are both coming off straight up and against the spread wins. Now, the two AFC powerhouses meet Sunday for what could be a preview of this year's playoffs, and what is arguably the best NFL betting game of the week.

Last week, San Diego had their hands full early on with defending NFC champion Chicago before pulling out a 14-3 cover victory as the 7-point favorites.

The Chargers collected a mere 263 yards on offense in the win, as MVP running back LaDainian Tomlinson had 17 carries and one touchdown with a dismal 25 yards, but did manage to hook up with All-Pro tight end Antonio Gates for a 17-yard throwing score. Tomlinson is 8-for-11 for 143 yards passing in his career.

Defensively, the Chargers were stout. The squad allowed just 202 overall yards and held Chicago's running game to 84.

The Chargers have covered the spread in four of their last five regular season games at home, but now must attempt to collect a payday on the road against the Patriots, who have covered the spread in four consecutive regular season games and have cashed in nine of their last eleven which includes last year's postseason.

Last week, New England generated an easy 38-14 cover win against the New York Jets as the 6-point favorites. The Patriots, who had oddsmakers respect as chalk to win this year's Super Bowl lived up to all the hype.

On offense, the unit racked up 431 yards and Tom Brady threw three touchdowns while going 22-of-28 for 297 yards. The defense allowed 227 overall yards, 60 on the ground and 167 passing.

NFL odds display New England 4-point favorites with a total of 46.5. At home, the Patriots manufactured a money-dropping 3-5 against the spread record in 2006 regular season contests. The Chargers were 4-4 against the spread away from home in the same year.

San Diego would love to get revenge after New England eliminated them 24-21 in last year's AFC championship game, but don't expect that to happen. The Charger's offense looked suspect last week and if they perform like that again, New England will post an easy cover win.
