WTA Online Tennis Betting Odds - Estoril Open R16

Estoril, Portugal –Second round tennis betting action today on the women’s side saw the tournament’s top seed Flavia Pennetta bow out when she was upset by Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic. Pennetta has been one of the WTA Tour’s standout performers, picking up two WTA titles (in Vina Del Mar and Acapulco) in the first three months of the year. Pennetta’s loss today marked the tournament’s second major casualty (fourth seed Lucie Safarova crashed out in her opening match yesterday).

It is no secret that the fun thing to do in tennis betting: is to speculate on who will be the big underdog to advance and win money at it! Benesova was such an underdog and those few that may have bet on her will be enjoying a nice payout! Cue: Cheers!

Now let me just put this out there for all you underdog pushers: a big upset is not always the case in tennis betting. More often than not, steep favourites persevere and for good reason. So as the remaining women prepare to contest the second round on Thursday, April 16, 2008, you can be sure there will be more mixed results with surprises and nigh upsets. The question is which matchup will yield the surprise and which will avert the nigh upset. Here is my take on the tennis betting action.

Tennis Betting Line: Tatiana Garbin vs. Sanda Mamic

Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday April 17, 2008

Tennis Prediction: No. 50 Tatiana Garbin of Italy improved to a 7-8 mark for the year when she defeated qualifier Yulia Beygelzimer in the first round. Garbin is one match-win away from reaching her first WTA quarterfinal this year. Garbin favors clay.

Croatian Sanda Mamic weighs in at No. 471 in the WTA rankings. She is contesting her second WTA tournament of the year and improved to a 3-2 mark for the season when she defeated Alisa Kleybanova in the first round.

On paper, Garbin is the better play. Take her to persevere in a tough second round encounter.

Tennis Free Picks: Garbin in three sets

Tennis Betting Line: Maria Kirilenko vs. Petra Cetkovska

Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday April 17, 2008

Tennis Prediction: Russian Maria Kirilenko improve to 7-7 for the season when she persevered in three sets over qualifier Stefanie Vogele in the first round. The second seed, Kirilenko, was stretched to the limit, averting the nigh upset with a 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-1 score. Ranked No. 32, Kirilenko will be favoured over No.102 Petra Cetkovska of the Czech Republic. She should be the better play.

Tennis Free Picks: Kirilenko in straight sets

Tennis Betting Line: Olga Savchuk vs. Sofia Arvidsson

Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday April 17, 2008

Tennis Prediction: No.58 Sofia Arvidsson has had a good year and improved to a 15-4 mark with her first round victory over Lilia Osterloh of the USA. Although the Swede ranks higher than No. 90 Olga Savchuk she trails 0-1 lifetime (l. to Savchuk at the 2007 French Open). Based on their respective performances thus far in the season, Arvidsson holds the edge (she has had a better year than Savchuk thus far). But as we are now in the clay court portion of the season, Savchuk, who prefers clay surfaces, holds the edge over Arvidsson (predominantly a hard courter). Savchuk has a chance to emerge the winner in this matchup.

Tennis Free Picks: Savchuk in three sets
