UFC Betting - UFC 77 HOSTILE TERRITORY
By Robby Maddux
The UFC betting community’s next opportunity to get down on the action in the Octagon comes on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio in UFC 77 HOSTILE TERRITORY.
This spectacular card features a main between former middleweight champion Rich ''Ace'' Franklin and Anderson ''The Spider'' Sylva in a rematch.
Despite fighting in his own backyard and owning an impressive MMA record of 24-2, UFC odds list Franklin the underdog at +170. Franklin is a well-rounded fighter who'll attempt to make oddsmakers look foolish by utilizing his great condititioning and excellent striking skills.
Franklin has cashed for his investors in back-to-back fights, with his most recent win coming against Yushin Okami in a unanimous decision on June 16, 2007 at UFC 72. His latest loss came versus Silva on Oct.14, 2006 at UFC 64 making for a great rematch with UFC betting action on the line.
In that fight, Silva got the win by way of technical knock out and now one year later, he'll look to cash again for his supporters against Franklin as the betting favorite of -210.
Silva is also a well-rounded fighter with awesome striking skills. The Brazilian takes a MMA record of 19-4 to the cage. He's won his last four fights with the most recent victory coming against Nate Marquartdt on in UFC 73. During that span, none of his fights have gone the distance.
In a sport featuring two equally sized warriors, with both men being incredible fighters and athletes, anything can happen making all underdogs lively to say the least and there's great value on Franklin in this one.
As well, former heavyweight UFC champion Tim "The Maine-iac" Sylvia will battle undefeated Brandon "The Truth" Vera in what will be a war.
Vera's 8-0 record captured the respect of oddsmakers, who's tagged Vera the favorite at -155. He'll look to stay unbeaten with devastating kicks, fierce elbows and strong grappling. His most recent win came by way of technical knock out over Frank Mir on Dec. 18, 2006 in UFC 65.
The underdogged Sylvia will try to get the job done with a strong standup game and a solid takedown defense. His MMA record of 25-3 alone makes him a lively dog at +125.
He's coming off a loss to Randy Couture by way of unanimous decision on March 3, 2007 at UFC 68. But he's built the bankrolls of the betting community who's supported him in six of his last eight fight.
Also on this great card, Eric "Ravishing Red" Schafer (9-2-2) will take on Stephan "American Psycho" Bonnar (13-4), and Jason "The Athlete" MacDonald (20-8) faces Yushin Okami (21-4).
