UFC 69 Fight Results - Serra "Terrorizes" St. Pierre
By BetUS Staff
With a mad flurry of punches following a scrambling and slipping Georges St. Pierre, Matt “The Terror” Serra won himself the UFC Welterweight Belt.
In less than spectacular fashion Georges “Rush” St. Pierre was caught with a straight right from a lunging Serra after slipping on one of the logos on the mat. Serra was aggressively pursuing St. Pierre at the time but not landing much until the slip, when he was caught with the punch and went down.
Serra finished him with a flurry of punches while in the mount.
In other action, the highly anticipated rematch between Josh “Kos” Koscheck and Diego “The Nightmare” Sanchez turned out to be a chess match as the two fighters circled each other for three rounds not willing to commit to an attack. The limited action was carried by Koscheck for the whole fight, who landed a few solid kicks and punches, and one takedown.
It ended with a Josh Koscheck unanimous decision victory, and Sanchez suffering his first MMA defeat, putting his record at 19-1.
Houston native and knockout machine Mike “quick” Swick also took on his first UFC loss by Unanimous Decision at the hands of budding UFC superstar, Yushin Okami. The two fighters split the first two rounds but a slip up by Swick found himself in Okami’s full mount for much of the third round. He broke out late to get into a half guard, but Okami had his left leg locked in high in a rubber guard and held out for the final horn.
In probably the most action packed bout of the evening, Roger “El Matador” Huerta pummeled his way to victory over an outclassed, but very game and hard headed Leonard Garcia. Huerta simply dominated the action from the opening bell but Garcia did not back down for a second, repeatedly attempting to land savage haymakers and avoiding a KO. It ended with a Roger Huerta unanimous decision victory.
The opening PPV fight of the evening featured Kendall Grove and Alan Belcher. Although a more evenly matched fight than some of the others, Grove showed poise and skill as he comfortably dominated and eventually choked out Belcher with a modified arm/triangle choke at 4:42 of the second round.
