UFC 69 Betting – How Matt Serra Can Beat Georges St. Pierre (GSP)
By Adam Prince
Many UFC bettors are looking at the main event of UFC 69: Shootout as something to lay off. With GSP (13-1-0) favored at -900 and Matt Serra (15-4-0) at +600, that’s a no-brainer with no cash to be made, right?
With the odds SO stacked, you’d have to bet $900 on GSP just to win $100. But if you lay down a C-note on Serra, that turns into $600. Obviously easier said than done, but not impossible.
To bet on Matt “The Terror” Serra, you’ll have to ignore the UFC pundits, who argue that St. Pierre is the best pound for pound fighter in MMA, and the slightly tedious victory over Chris Lytle in the finale of The Ultimate Fighter 4 – The Comeback. But, if you can, you could be rewarded royally.
Training under Renzo Gracie, Serra was the first American to be awarded a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He’s a submission grappling specialist that loves the underdog role. That is the way he could beat Georges St. Pierre.
While he can’t strike or kick with the defending Welterweight Champion of the UFC, if he can get this fight to the ground, I’m giving him a puncher’s chance at submitting St. Pierre.
In interviews, St. Pierre has repeatedly stated that he doesn’t look past any fighter, but given the odds and the statistical matchups, even he has to think this fight is in the bag.
If GSP takes Serra lightly, that could be the opportunity that “The Terror” could capitalize on. Remember to play the odds, not the fighters. Even a small wager on Serra could be profitable – and he does have a shot at the victory.
