Analysis: In the first leg of this exciting UEFA Cup semi-final matchup, Zenit St. Petersburg surprisingly (for some) ground out the 1-1 draw. The score was well deserved, as the huge underdogs (Zenit +650) took on an intimidating German side, on an even more intimidating home patch in Allianz Arena in Munich Germany and somehow managed to hold their own.
Now, the second leg is about to kick-off and the bookies still tip the Russian side as the underdogs at + 250 for the home win, while favouring Bayern Munich with slightly less disadvantaged odds at +105 on the money line for the away victory.
This is a must win match, the winner advances to the UEFA Cup Championships final. With so much at stake, one would expect the home side to hold the advantage. No doubt, about it, Bayern Munich is a quality team and few bettors would go against them to go one better in the Championships; but I cannot help thinking that Zenit has a chance.
Good news for Bayern Munich is that Toni is coming back after serving his suspension, but they lose key keeper Kahn, who is not completely recovered from his first leg injury. With a premiere position resting on the young shoulders of Rensing to guard the net, Zenit St. Petersburg has been given an excellent opportunity. Can they seal the deal on home turf? Yes, I believe they can.
