This Week In MMA Betting

Even though the weekend was relatively quiet, I'm sure most sports betting and MMA fans got their fill on Wednesday when the UFC showed off four hours of programming, first with a 3-hour UFC Fight Night that included some incredible BetUS sportsbook wagering opportunities and then with the season premiere of The Ultimate Fighter 7. Ratings weren't the most stellar in the world, so if you're one of the many people who apparently missed it, you missed an awesome show. Knockouts, beatdowns, and wars, oh my!

The MMA world once again holds it's breath this coming weekend in anticipation of UFC 83, which is looking like one of the biggest events of the year. Over 21 thousand tickets were sold, and that's before they even went officially on sale to poor pathetic individuals like you and I who weren't part of the UFC's "Pay us $60 to pay us $150 for tickets" club.

One thing that is going on this weekend is 'YAMMA Pit Fighting' on Friday night. YAMMA is the brainchild of Bob Meyrowitz, who ran the UFC during the, oh so successful Human Cockfighting period of the company. It looks like he hasn't updated his rolodex in a while because aside from an 8-man heavyweight tournament, the card features 'Masters' fights between veteran (read: elderly) fighters from a long long time ago.

Perhaps if the promotion hadn't gone through nearly a dozen card changes already there might be some bet lines up here at BetUS, but as it stands you've got old dudes who haven't fought in years facing off against each other, a one night three round tournament, and a mysterious surface known only as the 'Yamma' which this promotion says will revolutionize fighting. These wildcards play hell with odds and make sound predictions nearly impossible, so consider it a favor that there aren't any odds up. If you're really aching for a fix, I recommend throwing your money down on a roulette wheel because it's pretty much the same thing as betting on any YAMMA fights.

Next week: the warm-up for UFC 83, with all the news, notes, and interesting stories you could ever hope for!
