Tennis Betting – Australian Open First Round Picks

Melbourne, Australia -- The bottom half of the draw on the men’s side had the honour of kick-starting Day 1 of the Australian Open. Stepping up to the plate was No.2 Rafael Nadal, No.4 Nikolay Davydenko, No.6 Andy Roddick and No.9 Andy Roddick amongst many others. BetUS is taking action on the Australian Open; check out the live tennis odds that are currently available at BetUS and start betting on your favourites as they vie for the first Grand Slam title of the 2008 ATP season.

Nadal’s Australian Open campaign got off to a satisfactory start when he fended off the threat of Serbian qualifier Viktor Troicki 7-6(3), 7-5, 6-1; Davydenko joined Nadal in the second round with a 7-5, 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Michael Llodra and Andy Roddick cruised past Lukas Dlouhy into the second round with a 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 victory. Andy Murray’s Sojourn in Melbourne came to an abrupt and disappointing end when he became the first top ten seeded player to crash out of the Australian Open, defeated by Jo-Wilfred Tsonga 7-5, 6-4, 0-6, 7-6 (5).

With so much more action in the first round still to play out, here are some free tennis picks for the individual match ups scheduled for Day 2 of the Australian Open.

Australian Open First Round Tennis Free Picks:

Match Times: Monday, 14 January 2008 From 7PM Eastern Time

Tennis Betting Line:

Roger Federer -10 -110 -20000 Over 26½ -125

Diego Hartfield +10 -130 +2000 Under 26½ -115

Tennis Prediction: At the outrageous price tag of -20000 on the money line, Roger Federer is without a second thought the best bet in this matchup.

Tennis Free Pick: Federer at -20000 in straight sets

Tennis Betting Line:

Janko Tipsarevic -3½ -115 -240 Over 40½ -130

Joseph Sirianni +3½ -125 +180 Under 40½ -110

Tennis Prediction: The favourite on the money line No.49 Janko Tipsarevic, at -240 is by all indications the better bet. However, No.146 Joseph Sirianni of Australian enjoys home court advantage – an advantage that served him well at the start of the season in Adelaide, where he reached the semifinal round, topping Radek Stepanek, Sam Querrey, Paul-Henri Mathieu along the way, before falling to Michael Llodra. This matchup could very well go the way of the underdog.

Tennis Free Pick: Sirianni at +180 in five sets

Tennis Betting Line:

Werner Eschauer +8½ EV +700

Tomas Berdych -8½ -140 -1600

Tennis Prediction: Largely expected to be the breakthrough year for Czech tennis star Tomas Berdych, the 22-year-old favourite on the money line at -1600 should face little challenge from the 33-year-old Werner Eschauer of Austria.

Tennis Free Pick: Berdych at -1600 in straight sets

Tennis Betting Line:

Fabrice Santoro -4 -120 -240 Over 41½ -115

John Isner +4 -120 +180 Under 41½ -125

Tennis Prediction: This should be an interesting matchup. No. 36 Fabrice “The Magician” Santoro and No. 109 John Isner have never met in tournament action before. The up-and-coming American Isner stands at an incredible height of 6’9”, towering over the diminutive Santoro, in comparison, at 5’10. Isner, owing to the full extent of his height, brings and intimidating serve to his game. Santoro, is one of the most entertaining and extraordinary playmakers on the tour. Their contrary styles will make this an interesting match, but a difficult one to handicap. I like Santoro’s odds in this match.

Tennis Free Pick:Santoro at -240 in four sets.
