Pro Tennis Betting - ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament
By Nila Amerova
Rotterdam, The Netherlands—Fifth seed David Ferrer and eighth seed Marcos Baghdatis are just a couple of the players in the Top 20 that are stopping in Rotterdam for a chance to compete in the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament. With a prize purse topping $1,000,000, there is plenty incentive on the line for the players as they launch their campaign this week. Defending champion Mikhail Youzhny suffered his first opening round loss of the season in a tournament he won last year, thereby leaving the title up for grabs, and with the stellar line-up of players still set to play in the first round, namely top seed Rafael Nadal, to be sure some exciting tennis action will be served up this weekend. So, what are you waiting for! Bet on Tennis with BetUS.
Tennis Betting Line: Simone Bolelli +500 David Ferrer -1000
Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time, February 19, 2008
Tennis Prediction: David Ferrer’s whopping price tag says it all. Betting on Bolelli is a huge stretch. Don’t even think about.
Tennis Free Picks: Ferrer in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line: Nicolas Mahut +120 Tommy Robredo -160
Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time, February 19, 2008
Tennis Prediction: No.40 Nicolas Mahut arrives with an underwhelming 4/4 record for the season, meanwhile, No. 17 Tommy Robredo brings an even more disheartening 3/3 record for the season to Rotterdam. At -160, Robredo is the bookies favorite, but confidence is key in winning matches, an ingredient that seems to have forsaken Robredo’s game of late. In his first two tournaments of the season, Robredo was deposed in the first round, and at the Australian Open, Robredo lost to run-of-the-mill Mardy Fish in the second round.
Robredo owns a 1-0 record over Nicolas Mahut of France, but history means nothing when confidence is absent. This potentially could be a match where betting on the underdog would yield a payout more likely than the favorite.
Tennis Free Picks: Mahut in three sets
Tennis Betting Line: Jarkko Nieminen -165 Fernando Verdasco +125
Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time, February 19, 2008
Tennis Prediction: No.30 Fernando Verdasco owns the most recent victory against No.27 Jarkko Nieminen in their three career meetings, but Nieminen leads 2-1 overall. This matchup is a bit of a tossup, as Verdasco is one of the most inconsistent players on the tour, losing matches he should win and sometimes winning matches he should have lost. Often, he is his own obstacle to victory, going for too much flash than sound strategy. Nieminen is the smart play in this matchup, but taking the odds makers’ bait on Verdasco could prove worthwhile, if Verdasco is so inclined.
Tennis Free Picks: Nieminen in three sets
Tennis Betting Line: Robin Soderling +115 Marcos Baghdatis -155
Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time, February 19, 2008
Tennis Prediction: No. 59 Robin Soderling of Sweden owns a 2-1 record over Marcos Baghdatis, but the most recent victory was secured by No.21 Marcos Baghdatis last year in Halle, Germany (grass). Baghdatis takes a 5/3 record into his opening match, which includes a semifinal run last week in Marseille, meanwhile, Robin Soderling brings a 2/1 record into tomorrow’s meeting, which includes his run to the quarterfinal round of Marseille – which incidentally was his first tournament of the season. This could prove to be a tough match for Baghdatis, but his odds to improve to 2-2 against Soderling hold value.
Tennis Free Picks: Baghdatis in three sets
