After such a gruelling schedule, his loss last week falls into perspective; there is no reason to bet against him this week.

In spite of this, Davydenko has had a good year and with a 28-8 mark with one Masters Series title (Miami) to date, he weighs in as the steep favourite at -500. Meanwhile, Ljubicic has struggled to produce results in tournament play this year. The 29-year-old owns a 9-8 mark for the year, improving to 10-8 with a victory over Steve Darcis in the opening round. In clay court action, Ljubicic is 2-2 for the season.
Nevertheless, there is value to be had betting on Ljubicic. He is a former Top 20 player and capable of stringing together a game that would knock Davydenko of his stride. Moreover, with the close proximity of the two Masters Series events –Rome and Hamburg, there is something to be said for fatigue. Davydenko reached the R16 last week, whereas Ljubicic fell in the first round. The added few days of rest and preparation may prove to be the advantage over Davydenko to deliver a win.
