Tennis Masters Series Hamburg – 2nd Round Tennis Betting Bets

Hamburg, Germany – At the close of first round of tennis betting action, the draw clipped to 32 players, second round sports betting matchups were set at TMS Hamburg. Some of these upcoming matchups are such blockbuster billings that sports bettors have some standout prospects to consider. With BetUS currently taking action on the Tennis Masters Series Hamburg, here are some free tennis picks for the online tennis betting community to consider.

Tennis Betting Line: Tomas Berdych -140 Marat Safin EV

Match Time: 09:00 AM Eastern Time, Wednesday May 14, 2008

Tennis Prediction: Unlike in Monte Carlo and Rome, Marat Safin was forced to qualify for the Hamburg Masters Series – and qualify he did. The former World No.1 and two-time Grand Slam champion has seen his ranking spiral out of control this year, falling as far as No.89; his best result this season came result in Munich, a quarterfinal run, where he lost to eventual champion Fernando Gonzalez. Safin moved into the second round, defeating No.48 Marin Cilic – a promising young talent. His reward is a second round matchup against Tomas Berdych, the eighth seed. Although Safin has struggled this year and he faces a Top 20 player in No.11 Berdych, he recently defeated the Czech player in Davis Cup action for Russia. The match was an instant classic – a five-set marathon that saw Safin battle back from two-sets down to win 6-7(5), 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. Although national competition carries different weight, his result is nevertheless encouraging. At Even odds, he is a good play for the win. Berdych, although favored at -140, is not a sure play. A promising talent, he has yet to deliver on all the hype that has preceded him.

Tennis Free Picks: Safin in three sets

Tennis Betting Line: Andy Murray -325 Gilles Simon +210

Match Time: 09:00 AM Eastern Time, Wednesday May 14, 2008

Tennis Prediction: Gilles Simon claimed a victory over the Scot, Andy Murray at the ATP Masters Series in Rome last year. This year, they meet in the second round of another Masters event; and with a 1-0 edge, the Frenchman, Simon would appear to hold more value. Last week in Rome, Simon reached the second round, after beating No.17 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the R64.

It is no secret: but Murray is not known for clay-court proficiency. Well, he is not bad, but he is not great either. In three tournaments thus far, he has posted a third round and two second round appearances. Long touted as Britain’s future talent, Murray has not been playing well on clay. He should advance into the next round, but don’t be surprised if his clay court woes continue.

Tennis Free Picks: Simon in three sets

Tennis Betting Line: Oliver Rochus vs. Carlos Moya

Match Time: 09:00 AM Eastern Time, Wednesday May 14, 2008

Tennis Prediction: A struggling Carlos Moya received his first match win in three tournaments today when he beat Julien Benneteau in his opening match. The well-liked veteran, Moya could not have earned the victory at a more opportune moment, as in the next round he meets lucky loser Olivier Rochus. With a 2-1 edge over the No.78 ranked player, Moya’s odds of extending his winning streak in Hamburg improved and he has a golden opportunity to reach the third round of a clay court event, something he has not done since reaching the final in Costa do Sauipe.

Tennis Free Picks: Moya in straight sets

Tennis Betting Line: Rafael Nadal vs. Potito Starace

Match Time: 09:00 AM Eastern Time, Wednesday May 14, 2008

Tennis Prediction: Clay court King and 2007 Hamburg runner-up, Rafael Nadal, is set to take centre court tomorrow for the first time since his title defence campaign in Rome bombed in the first round. Should bettors be worried? No. Not really. Nadal suffered from severe blisters – a result of playing on the gruelling red stuff week-upon-week in his quest to defend three back-to-back clay court titles. Due to the Olympics, the clay court season was significantly shortened, making the task that much more difficult for the Spaniard. He successfully defended two before suffering only his second loss on clay in over 100 matches! Clearly, he should bounce back. Therefore, after a week of rest I expect Nadal will begin his Hamburg campaign in winning fashion.

Tennis Free Picks: Nadal in straight sets
