The Open de Tenis Comunidad Valencia enters the second round on Thursday, April 17, 2008. BetUS Sportsbook is taking action on this event – one of two clay court tournaments currently running on the ATP Calendar.
Last year, Spaniard Nicolas Almagro came back from behind to defeat Potito Starace of Italy – a first time ATP finalist – 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Returning to Valencia this year Almagro received fifth seeding; meanwhile, Starace was awarded the eighth seeding. Bidding to dethrone Almagro are some of the circuits best clay courters in the form of compatriot’s top seed David Ferrer, third seed Tommy Robredo, and seventh seed Fernando Verdaso, as well as, second seed Juan Monaco of Argentina.
So without further ado, here is my take on some of the tennis betting action available at BetUS Sportsbook for the Open de Tenis R16.
Tennis Betting Line: David Ferrer -800 Pablo Andujar +425
Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday April 17, 2008
Tennis Prediction: This is the first ever career meeting between top seed David Ferrer and qualifier Pablo Andujar. As the second top ranked Spaniard at World No.5 (second to No.2 Rafael Nadal), it comes as no surprise that Ferrer is heavily favoured for the win. With little to recommend Andujar, a player who ranks beyond the Top 100, Ferrer is the better play.
Tennis Free Picks: Ferrer in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line: Nicolas Almagro -700 Eduardo Schwank +400
Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday April 17, 2008
Tennis Prediction: Eduardo Schwank received a free pass into the R16 when his first round opponent, Christophe Rochus, was forced to retire with a neck injury in the second set (Rochus was down 2-6, 0-2). Schwank’s luck earned him a second round encounter against the tournaments defending champion. No.27 Nicolas Almagro of Spain, tipped at a whopping -700, is a good play because not only is he the reigning champion, but he is an exceptional clay court player (he already lifted two clay court titles for the season in Acapulco and Costa do Sauipe) and he holds home court advantage. Take Almagro without a second thought.
Tennis Free Picks: Almagro in straight sets
