Tennis Free Picks - Masters Series 1st Round Tennis Betting

Hamburg, Germany – The great part about betting on tennis at BetUS Sportsbook is that we offer a wide range of tennis betting options on all the weekly tournaments on the ATP and WTA Calendar. This week, the BetUS tennis-betting market is taking action on the ATP Masters Series Hamburg and with such a quick turnaround following last week’s ATP Masters Series Rome, what is in store for online sports betting circles is another exciting week of tennis gambling. So let us get started handicapping some of the upcoming matchups; here is my feature tennis free picks instalment at BetUS for you to consider.

Tennis Betting Line: Janko Tipsarevic -600 Andreas Beck +350

Match Time: 11:00 AM Eastern Time, Tuesday May 13, 2008

Tennis Prediction: Wild card entrant Andreas Beck of Germany ranks beyond the Top 100. Although he enters this tournament for one reason only, because he is from Germany, it is no reason to discount him in the opening round. Prior to entering the main draw in Hamburg, Beck won a challenger event on clay in Dresden and lifted a Challenger title (hard) in Sarajevo earlier this year. Of course, there is a huge difference between playing a Challenger event and a Masters Series; so while he should not be discounted entirely, much credence cannot be justly given to the German at this point.

Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia saw his ranking during the hard court season improve from No. 52 at the start of the year to No. 37 following the ATP Masters Series in Miami. In the spring clay-court season, Tipsarevic reached the R16 at the Monte Carlo Masters, but crashed out of the first round in Barcelona and the Rome Masters. He enters this matchup with a 2-3 record on clay for the season.

Tipsarevic favours slow courts, listing hard and clay as his favourite surfaces to play on. Save for the level of players Becks has been competing against recently, his results on clay are proven. So surface advantage out. Becks has home court advantage. Tipping the balance in his favour. I like his odds to upset Tipsarevic.

Tennis Free Picks: Becks in three sets

Tennis Betting Line: Tommy Robredo -165 Philipp Kohlschreiber +135

Match Time: 11:00 AM Eastern Time, Tuesday May 13, 2008

Tennis Prediction: Tommy Robredo arrives in Hamburg on the heels of an encouraging spring clay-court season. His 14-10 mark for the season consists of a semi-final run in Valencia, two quarterfinal appearances in Barcelona and Rome Masters and a R16 at the Monte Carlo Masters. Robredo’s game is on the uptake and should he bounce back 100% following last week’s Rome Masters he holds value against home favourite Philipp Kohlschreiber.

Robredo owns a 1-0 record over Kohlschreiber – a match he won in Auckland last year. Robredo is a specialist on this surface, but Kohlschreiber is not so bad on the red stuff as well. I expect a tough match, but Robredo should prevail.

Tennis Free Picks: Robredo in straight sets

Tennis Betting Line: Jose Acasuso vs. Kristof Vliegen

Match Time: 11:00 AM Eastern Time, Tuesday May 13, 2008

Tennis Prediction: Initially Acasuso was slotted to meet Tomas Berdych, the ninth seed, but when Andy Roddick withdrew from the tournament, Berdych moved into the American’s slot and Acasuso was rewarded with an opening encounter against Nicolas Almagro. But just as the bookies set the money line, Almagro withdrew with a nagging wrist injury he sustained last week in Rome. So now, Kristof Vliegen is the lucky loser to receive the vacant slot in the draw. Barring any further changes (heck – Acasuso must be wondering whether it is him), Acasuso’s odds just improved in Hamburg. Weighing in at No.45, Acasuso may not be the best clay-courter on the circuit, but he is not bad either. Entering with a 15-13 mark for the season, which includes encouraging results in clay court tournaments this year, Acasuso should prevail

Tennis Free Picks: Acasuso in straight sets
