Tennis Betting Line: Virginie Razzano vs. Alizé Cornet
Match Time: 11:00 AM Eastern Time. Friday April 11, 2008
Tennis Prediction: No.27 Virginie Razzano enters this matchup with a 10-8 record for the season. Before the start of this clay court event, Razzano struggled to factor in hard court tournaments, reaching only one quarterfinal in eight tournaments contested.
At the Bausch & Lomb Championships, Razzano reaches her second quarterfinal of the season with victories over qualifier Yulia Fedak, Marta Domachowska and Olga Govortsova.
The 24-year-old Frenchwoman owns a 2-0 lifetime record over her younger compatriot, 18-year-old Alizé Cornet of France.
The last time they met was in Paris this year, where Razzano edged past Cornet with a close straight set victory 6-4, 7-5.
No. 49 Cornet enters this matchup with a 9-7 record for the season, but unlike Razzano Cornet is competing in her third clay court tournament this year. Earlier in the season, Cornet competed in Bogota (lost in her opening match) and Acapulco (finished runner-up).
Cornet reached the final eight by posting victories over Michaella Krajicek, Sybille Bammer and Elena Vesnina.
Both Razzano and Cornet’s favor surface and both won the Roland Garros title in their junior years. In this all-French quarterfinal matchup, they stack up evenly. The last time they met in Paris, Cornet came close to upsetting her compatriot. Clearly, at the time she was unable to pull ahead. But with a rematch set for tomorrow, I like the youngster’s chances to pull off the victory.
