Tennis Betting - Wimbledon Quarterfinal Odds Nadal vs. Murray

by Nila Amerova

London, England – As the online sports betting community looks ahead to the final rounds of Wimbledon wagering action, the quarterfinal line-up in men’s tennis betting is causing quite a stir. Aside from Federer’s sensational billing against Ancic, there are another three great matchups on offer in the sports gambling markets, one of which will demand our attention here 2006 and 2007 Wimbledon runner-up Rafael Nadal versus Scot Andy Murray. Here is how this sports betting matchup should unfold:

Tennis Betting Line:

Andrew Murray +5½ -115 +350 Over 36½ -135

Rafael Nadal -5½ -125 -600 Under 36½ -105

Match Time: 07:00 AM Eastern time, Wednesday July 2, 2008

Analysis: While this matchup is perhaps the most exciting for the Wimbledon crowds, arriving in throngs to watch the match live, it is equally thrilling for the sports gambling hamlet at BetUS Sportsbook. Rafael Nadal became the first Spaniard in a long, long, time to win a grass court title when he lifted the Stella Artois Championships a week before starting his Wimbledon campaign. His stock took an upswing in the tennis betting markets as the notion that he could finally solve the dilemma of Federer – should they meet in the final once again – gains credence. But before he can look ahead to the potential Sunday date, his path runs through Scot Andy Murray.

Tennis Prediction: Rafael Nadal owns a perfect record against the Scot, but tomorrow his 3-0 mark against Murray will be tested on the luscious lawns of centre court, amidst a partisan crowd supporting Murray’s bid to continue his bid for a first-ever Grand Slam title. While the odds makers’ favour Nadal, and rightly so, for the victory, the crowd will favour Murray. And after his heroics against Richard Gasquet you can bet they believe he can top the mighty Spaniard.

Tennis Betting Verdict: The reality is that the indefatigable Rafael Nadal is in an entirely different weight class than Richard Gasquet, whose complete unravelling after a two set lead against Andy Murray neither surprises me nor concerns me overly. It may not even give Nadal pause for concern either. Nadal is a near-superhuman specimen in tennis – his four French Open titles and two runner-up finishes at Wimbledon back him up.

In terms of betting on this match, I cannot see Murray topping Nadal. Although the money play is a good at +350 odds, Nadal has been better this year than in his two previous outings at Wimbledon. The only handicap going against Nadal is a questionable knee. But should he be in top form, I expect him to dash British hopes with a four sets victory.
