Tennis Prediction: This is an interesting match up and an even more interesting line. No.34 Phillip Kohlschreiber, despite ranking beyond the Top 30, owns a 3-0 record over No.19 Mikhail Youzhny. Two of the victories Kohlschreiber nicked were in 2007 – the first in Munich (clay) and the second at the 2007 US Open.
Although Kohlschreiber brings a modest 33/26 record for the season into this match, it includes his careers’ maiden ATP title – Munich. In 2007, Kohlschreiber was also a semifinalist in Halle and a quarterfinalist in Auckland, Rotterdam, ATP Masters Series Monte Carlo, and Moscow.
No.19 Mikhail Youzhny holds home court advantage, which is a huge advantage in any event for a player. A few weeks ago, in his home town of Moscow, Youzhny crashed out of the Kremlin Cup in the second round, but his poor performance came on the heels of a series of early exits in tournaments that date as far back as the summer hard court season.
Youzhny’s quarterfinal appearance marks his best performance in some time and nothing would perhaps restore his waning confidence as a victory over Kohlschreiber in front of a home crowd of supporters. Nevertheless, Kohlschreiber enters this match up with a solid 3-0 edge, the balance tips in his favor.
