Tennis Wagering – Quarterfinal Tennis Picks- Nalbandian vs. Ferrer

by Nila Amerova

Paris, France – Against all the odds, No.21 David Nalbandian, who entered the BNP Paribas Masters unseeded, recorded his second victory over World No.1 Roger Federer in their consecutive AMS meetings. The Argentinean Nalbandian, disadvantaged at +275 with BetUS Sportsbook, defeated the stoic Swiss Federer, favored at -450, in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(3).

After struggling throughout most of the 2007 season, Nalbandian, in his last few events is enjoying good form, but in spite of the great strides he has made, he will not qualify for Shanghai, even if he continues on to win the AMS in Paris title, because it is now certain that either Murray or Gasquet will advance into the semifinal. With the Shanghai dimension out of the equation, will Nalbandian continue his winning ways in Paris or will he end his season in the quarterfinal against Shanghai contender Ferrer?

Tennis Line: Nalbandian vs. Ferrer

Match Time: 06:00 AM EST

Tennis Prediction: No.6 David Ferrer had his invitation to the Shanghai Masters Cup confirmed on Saturday, before the BNP

Paribas Masters kicked off. Assured of a place in Shanghai, there will be no pressure on Ferrer in tomorrows match.

Prior to winning the ATP Masters in Madrid title, Nalbandian lost in his only quarterfinal appearance this season to David Ferrer in Barcelona. Ferrer also stopped Nalbandian in his 2007 US Open march, eking out the Argenitinean in a five set victory 6-3 3-6 4-6 7-6(5) 7-5. For Nalbandian this match will be an opportunity to avenge both losses.

In 2007, Ferrer holds a 2-1 record over Nalbandian, and in lifetime records, Ferrer leads 6-2. By all indications, Ferrer would be the better bet, however, Nalbandian after struggling throughout most of the 2007 season, will be trying to finish this season on a high, and in so doing improve his standing for the 2008 season.

Nalbandian has bested Roger Federer twice this season, and in Madrid defeated both Nadal and Djokovic before seizing the title from Federer. Clearly, Nalbandian is a dangerous floater in any tournament, and worth the risk.

However, Ferrer has gotten the better of him, more than most, and as one of the toughest competitors on the circuit today, Ferrer’s winning edge over Nalbandian tips the balance in his favor.

Tennis Free Pick: Ferrer in three sets.
