Tennis Betting Odds – ATP Free Picks
By Nila Amerova
Houston, Texas – On Wednesday 16 April 2008, the US Men’s Clay Court Championships first round of tennis betting and sports wagering action completes and second round action begins. BetUS is offering tennis odds on all the individual matchups, so without further ado, here is a look at some of the odds currently available as well as some tennis free picks to get you started wagering on tennis.
First Round Matchups and Tennis Odds:
Tennis Betting Line: Nicolas Massu -125 Sam Querrey -115
Match Time: 11:00 AM Eastern Time, Wednesday April 16, 2008
Tennis Prediction: No.50 Sam Querrey of the USA has had a promising start to his season by posting 14-8 in tournament play, winning his maiden ATP title (San Jose) and improving from No.63 to No.50 the ATP ranks. Favoured on the money line at -115, the up-and-coming American is good play. He meets Nicolas Massu for the first time ever, on a surface that arguably favors the Chilean. However, with home court advantage and growing confidence in his game, Querrey should pull through to the next round in Houston.
Tennis Free Picks: Querrey in three sets
Tennis Betting Line: Paul Capdeville +110 Diego Hartfield -150
Match Time: 11:00 AM Eastern Time, Wednesday April 16, 2008
Tennis Prediction: Both No.1156 Paul Capdeville and No.137 Diego Hartfield favour clay; therefore, surface edge is cancelled out in this matchup. Based on tournament performance, neither player holds a definitive edge, as both notched only two-match wins for the season. In qualifiers, challengers and futures events, Hartfield holds the edge over Capdeville, beating him three times in four career meetings. However, the last time the pair met at this level was in 2004. The odds makers tip Hartfield at -150 favorite odds, making him the favorite to advance. I would agree. Hartfield arrives in Houston after having competed at a challenger event in Bogota, Colombia, last month, Hartfield reached the quarterfinal. His clay court game warmed up gives the Argentinean the edge.
Tennis Free Picks: Hartfield in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line: Peter Luczak -225 Harel Levy +175
Match Time: 11:00 AM Eastern Time, Wednesday April 16, 2008
Tennis Prediction: Peter Luczak of Australia ranks within in the Top 100 and favors clay. With surface edge over No. 167 Harel Levy, who favors hard courts, Luczak is the better play. Further recommending Luczak is the fact that Levy arrives in Houston having yet to notch a match-win for the season. In three tournaments, Levy was a first round casualty.
Tennis Free Picks: Luzcak in straight sets
Second Round Matchups and Tennis Free Picks:
Both 18-year-old Donald Young of the USA and 22-year-old Wayne Odesnik advanced into the second round yesterday when they won their respective first round matches. Set to contest their second round matchups in Houston on Wednesday, here is a breakdown of the young American duo’s chances of reaching the US Men’s Clay Court Championships quarterfinals.
Donald Young vs. Oscar Hernandez
Analysis: Oscar Hernandez of Spain is one of the oldest players competing in the main draw. The 35-year-old improved to a 5-9 mark when he beat Juan-Pablo Brezizcki in the first round. Hernandez, just like most tennis players from Spain, favors clay courts and makes a living competing in clay court tournaments year-round.
Donald Young has home court advantage – an advantage that could convert for a victory. But the American, who weighs in at No.79 in the world, has a game better suited for the faster courts – and lest we forget—Hernandez is a bit of an aficionado on the slower clay courts. With surface edge going to the more experienced veteran, Hernandez has a real chance of upsetting the favoured American.
Tennis Free Picks: Hernandez in straight sets
Wayne Odesnik vs. Dudi Sela
Analysis: No. 117 Wayne Odesnik meets No. 60 Dudi Sela for the first time at an ATP level event. After winning his first round encounter against wild card Amer Delic, Odesnik improves to a 3-5 mark for the season. Odesnik has yet to reach an ATP quarterfinal this year. In Dudi Sela, he will find stiff competition, but with home court advantage, Odesnik has a real chance of advancing. Sela does not favour clay courts, giving Odesnik an even better chance of seizing the victory.
Tennis Free Picks: Odesnik in three sets
