Tennis Betting Line: Svetlana Kuznetsova -650 Vera Dushevina +375
Match Time: 02:00 A.M. EST
Tennis Prediction: Svetlana Kuznetsova and Vera Dushevina are two of five Russian players to advance into the final eight in Moscow.
Coming into this match the top seed and World No.2 Svetlana Kuznetsova is heavily favored at -650. Kuznetsova holds a comfortable 3-0 lead in head-to-heads over No. 46 Vera Dushevina – a record which includes two victories on clay and one, the most recent in 2005, on hard.
This quarterfinal meeting between Kuznetsova and Dushevina marks their first meeting since the R16 at the 2005 Australian Open, where Kuznetsova seized the victory in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. In fact, all the victories Kuznetsova recorded over Dushevina were relatively easy. In the 2002 Sopot qualifying round, Kuznetsova won 6-2, 6-2 and in Warsaw (2004) she breezed past Dushevina with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Clearly, Dushevina has been a non-issue in the past for Kuznetsova. If their record were any indication, then Kuznetsova would be the sure play in this match.
Further recommending Kuznetsova is an impressive 2007 season that saw her amass a 54/15 record for the season, which includes one WTA title, and a jump in rankings from No.5, her lowest rank this season, to her current position as the World’s No.2 player.
Disadvantaged at +375, Dushevina is a chancy bet. She has never beaten Kuznetsova and with Kuznetsova playing some of her careers’ best tennis, for Dushevina to orchestrate the upset now would appear to be even more unlikely.
Tennis Free Pick: Kuznetsova in straight sets.
