Tennis Prediction: Seventh seed Ana Chakvetadze is appearing in her first-ever year-end Championship event. Chakvetadze was dealt a tough draw; her opening match was against World No.1 Justine Henin, who arrived in Madrid riding a 20-match winning streak that dates back to the start of the 2007 US Open and includes three of her season’s nine WTA titles (US Open, Stuttgart and Zurich). Hardly a surprise when Chakvetadze lost to Henin in straight sets 6-1, 7-6(4).

In her second match, Chakvetadze received a free pass, when Serena Williams retired, down a set 6-4. Chakvetadze gained a point for the victory in this match, and moved into second place in the yellow group.

Chakvetadze entered the Sony Ericsson Championships with a 57/18 record for the season and four WTA titles.

Jelena Jankovic currently sits in third place in the Yellow Group. In order to advance onto the second place, she must defeat Chakvetadze in this match. It goes without saying, this match is a must win for Jankovic, who entered the tournament as one of the favorites.

For Jankovic, this is her debut appearance at the Sony Ericsson Championships. Jankovic brings a staggering 72/22 record and four WTA titles. However, Jankovic enters her second match of the Madrid Championships after suffering a crushing 6-2, 6-2 defeat in her opening match today against her nemesis Justine Henin. (With the victory, Henin improved to a 9-0 lifetime record against Jankovic.)

The loss could be a crushing blow to Jankovic’s morale and Madrid campaign, and an advantage for Chakvetadze to capitalize on.
