Basel, Switzerland – The first round of the ATP Swiss Indoors Tennis championships fell more or less according to my choice tennis free picks for BetUS Sportsbook. Tennis Prediction: Handicapping this match is no mean task. No.7 James Blake, favored on the line at -140 odds, ranks well above No.25 Ivo Karlovic and brings an impressive 50/22 record for the season, which includes two ATP titles, into this match.
However, Karlovic owns a 2-1 head-to-head record over Blake, having secured both victories in two very tough contests this year. In San Jose, Karlovic narrowly defeated Blake 6-7(4) 7-6(11) 6-4, and in Roland Garros, Karlovic topped Blake in four close sets 4-6 6-4 7-5 7-5.
The second round meeting marks their third meeting this season, and having struggled twice against the 6’9” giant Karlovic this year, Blake is not a sure bet. If anything, he is poised to slip to 0-3 in 2007 against Karlovic.
Both Blake and Karlovic are one of the 20 players still in contention for a spot in Shanghai in November. With a qualifying berth in the year-end showdown, there is a lot at stake for both. Karlovic’s biggest asset is his serve and while Blake has one of the best return games on the tour and equally impressive shot making skills, he will be hard pressed to overcome Karlovic. This year Karlovic crossed the 1000 milestone – recording over 1000 Aces in a season. With such a big weapon, at EVEN odds, Karlovic would be a good bet to ace Blake out of Basel.

Argentinean No. 49 Juan Martin Del Potro may draw inspiration from his compatriot David Nalbandian’s triumph over Roger Federer in last week’s AMS in Madrid, but any inspiration his muse may have afforded was quashed with one fell swoop, as Nalbandian was ousted by Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka earlier today. Del Potro awaits a similar fate.
