Tennis Betting - Barclay’s Dubai Quarter-Final Picks
by Nila Amerova
Dubai, UAE – Unlike the top half of the draw which saw mixed results for the seeds, the bottom-half of the draw came to a close in the second round with all the seeded players booking a berth in the quarterfinal of the Dubai Tennis Championships, making their section of the draw that much more tougher. Fourth seed Jelena Jankovic, sixth seed Ana Chakvetadze and second seed Svetlana Kuznetsova, along with unseeded Amelie Mauresmo, slotted a quarterfinal berth today with hard fought three set victories (aside from Kuznetsova who breezed by Lucie Safarova in straight sets 6-1, 6-2), setting-up two blockbuster matchups in the final eight. Check out the tennis odds for the Barclay’s Dubai Tennis Championships at BetUS and bet on these marquee matchups.
Tennis Betting Line: Svetlana Kuznetsova vs. Amelie Mauresmo
Match Time: 04:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday February 28, 2008
Tennis Prediction: The rivalry between No.3 Svetlana Kuznetsova and No.29 Amelie Mauresmo is a close one, with Mauresmo edging ahead by only one victory. However, a closer look at their record shows that Mauresmo won four consecutive matches in 2004 – one of her career best seasons when she ranked alternately between World No.1 to No.3. From 2004, Mauresmo has not defeated Kuznetsova. In fact, in 2006 Kuznetsova nicked three victories in succession over Mauresmo and in so doing pulled ahead within one victory of tying their record. By all indications, Kuznetsova, who was one of the most consistent players on the WTA tour last season is the better play. Mauresmo is a risky bet—in fact, her shocking loss in Doha last week to No.101 Tamarine Tanasugarn in the R32 could not be more telling.
Tennis Free Picks: Kuznetsova in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line: Ana Chakvetadze vs. Jelena Jankovic
Match Time: 04:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday February 28, 2008
Tennis Prediction: Separated by two spots in ranking, No.4 Jelena Jankovic and No.6 Ana Chakvetadze have much to recommend them on the money line.
Jankovic arrives into the final eight with a 9/3 record for the season, which includes a semifinal run at the Australian Open and two quarterfinal runs—in Sydney and Doha. This is the third quarterfinal match Jankovic is contesting this season.
Chakvetadze brings a 9/4 record for the season in this matchup, which includes one Sony Ericsson WTA title for the season – Paris. In her last two tournaments —Antwerp and Doha—Chakvetadze floundered in her opening matches. In Dubai, Chakvetadze raced out of the blocks, topping a tough competitor in Agnieska Radwanska in the first round and outmuscling powerhouse Dinara Safina in the second round en route to the quarterfinals.
Chakvetadze owns a 6-2 record over Jankovic – a record that includes a 2-1 lead in 2007 (albeit Chakvetadze retiring from one of their matches gave Jankovic the only victory of the year against Chakvetadze).
Tennis Free Picks: Chakvetadze in straight sets
