ATP Tennis: BA-CA Quarterfinal Picks Gonzalez vs Ferrero
by Nila Amerova
Vienna, Austria – The BA–CA Tennis Trophy championships moves into the quarterfinal on Friday, October 12, 2007. The final eight are already determined, so let us look at some of the tennis odds that are live at BetUS Sportsbook.
BA-CA Tennis Picks
Tennis Betting Line: Juan Carlos Ferrero +145 Fernando Gonzalez -190
Match Time: 07:00 A.M. EST
Tennis Prediction: Shanghai hopeful Fernando Gonzalez has enjoyed a good run in Vienna, arriving into the quarterfinal after posting a comfortable 6-3, 6-4 victory over Jiri Vanek in the second round. The BA-CA quarterfinal marks Gonzalez’s seventh quarterfinal appearance in 2007.
Strengthening the odds on Gonzalez is a 3-2 lead in head-to-heads over Ferrero, of which the most recent victory went the way of Gonzalez at the 2007 ATP Masters Series in Cincinnati (hard). Gonzalez defeated Ferrero in straight sets 6-2 7-6(7).
Gonzalez brings a 32/18 record, which includes one ATP title. His lone title this season came recently, in Beijing (hard). Gonzalez has much to recommend him on this money line. His hard court game is exceptional and was perhaps at its best early this season, at the Australian Open, taking him all the way to the Grand Slam final, where he lost to Roger Federer. Following his impressive run at the Australian Open, Gonzalez struggled, producing patchy performances throughout the season. However, now with his first title of the season in the bag, he may have finally gotten the monkey off of his back - so to speak.
No. 23 Juan Carlos Ferrero is one of those underdogs that holds a lot of value. Ranked in the Top 30 and a one-time Grand Slam champion (Roland Garros), taking Ferrero at +145 on the money line is worth the consideration. Moreover, should he win, a $100 bet would payout $145! Not bad at all!
While Ferrero has much to recommend him on this money line, he is not the sure play. His 2007 season has not been his best, amassing a 31/20 record with no ATP titles.
The balance tips in favor of Gonzalez. With his recent victory in Beijing, Gonzalez’s confidence should be at its highest point thus far this season. Moreover, Gonzalez is sixth in line in the ATP points race for a berth in Shanghai, as such, to qualify for the year-end Master Cup in November, there is no option for him but to continue his winning streak in Vienna.
Tennis Free Pick: Gonzalez in three sets
