Women’s Australian Open Free Third Round Picks
By Eric Williams
While several women’s fourth round matches will be getting under way this evening in the land down under, some exciting third round matches still must be played.
Here’s the skinny of which women will advance and take another step toward winning the first Grand Slam event of the year.

Anna Chakvetadze -450
Maria Kirilenko +275
WTA Australian Open Round 3
Analysis: Chakvetadze holds a 3-1 career advantage over the younger sister of Utah Jazz power forward Andrei “AK 47” Kirilenko, winning each match in straight sets – after losing to Kirilenko in the pair’s first meeting way back in 2005. Kirilenko was knocked out of the past two Australian Opens in the third round. Chakvetadze reached the quarterfinals at last year’s Australian Open and should advance here once again.

Venus Williams -1400
Sania Mirza +650
WTA Australian Open Round 3
Analysis: The eighth-ranked Williams has played World No. 32 Mirza just once, winning 6-3, 6-2 at Stanford in 2005. Williams missed last year’s Aussie Open with an injury and finished as the runner-up in 2003, but has never won the Australian Open in her illustrious career while Mirza was knocked out of the past two Australian Opens in the second round.

Ana Ivanovic -650
Katarina Srebotnik +375
WTA Australian Open Round 3
Analysis: Ivanovic, ranked fourth in the world, is 3-0 against the 27th-ranked Srebotnik including a win at the Sydney tune-up just prior to this tournament. No way does Ivanovic lose this match.

Agnieszka Radwanska +350
Svetlana Kuznetsova -600
Over 19½ -130
Under 19½ -110
WTA Australian Open Round 3
Analysis: Kuznetsova, the No. 2-ranked player in the world, is 3-0 against Radwanska, beating her three times in 2007 alone. Kuznetsova, the 2004 U.S. Open winner, has yet to win an Australian Open – or any other Grand Slam for that matter – and has been knocked out of the Aussie Open in the fourth round in each of the last two seasons. Radwanska played in her first Aussie Open last year, reaching the second round before bowing out.
