Tennis Betting - ATP Morgan Keegan First Round Picks

by Nila Amerova

Memphis, TN – Top seed Andy Roddick, who arrives in Memphis with after joining the winner’s circle with his first ATP title win of the year in San Jose last week, begins his Regions Morgan Keegan Championships run on Wednesday, February 27, 2008. In 2007, Roddick finished as the runner-up at this event, losing in straight sets to Tommy Haas 6-3, 6-2. Bet on Roddick, the bookies short odds favourite to continue his winning streak in Memphis.

Tennis Betting Line: Andy Roddick -1200 Gilles Muller +600

Match Time: 11:00 AM Eastern Time, Wednesday February 26, 2008

Tennis Prediction: No.138 Gilles Muller is tied at 1-1 in career head-to-heads with Andy Roddick, owing to a shock-upset victory in the first round of the US Open in 2005. Two years since the momentous victory in Flushing Meadows, Muller is presented with another shot at Roddick in the first round of a tournament. (Roddick evened their record with a victory in the quarterfinal of Indianapolis a year later).

Roddick arrives with an 8/1 record for the season in Memphis, which includes a five-match winning streak that saw him clinch the title in San Jose. Roddick will be looking to extend his winning streak to six, and at the whopping price tag of -1200, he is a good bet. The only match Roddick lost this season was his third round encounter at the Australian Open – a five set marathon 4-6 6-3 6-7(11) 7-6(3) 6-8 that went the way of Philipp Kohlschreiber.

Tennis Free Picks: Roddick in straight sets

Tennis Betting Line: Frederic Niemeyer +350 Robin Soderling -600

Match Time: 11:00 AM Eastern Time, Wednesday February 26, 2008

Tennis Prediction: No. 42 Robin Soderling brings a 6/2 record for the season to Memphis, which includes a quarterfinal run in Marseille, France; and a runner-up finish this Sunday in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. After a gruelling two weeks competing in European tournaments, Soderling crosses the Atlantic to compete on the American leg of the ATP tour.

At -600 favorite odds, Soderling is a good bet for the victory in his opening match against Frederic Niemeyer, who appears in his first ATP level tournament of the season and ranks well beyond the Top 100. While Soderling may suffer from the obvious affects of jetlag and the physical toll of posting two good runs in Europe, as a high calibre player he should have little difficulty ousting Niemeyer.

Tennis Free Picks: Soderling in straight sets
