Monte Carlo, Monaco – BetUS Sportsbook is taking action on the third round matchups at the ATP Masters Series Monte Carlo. Aside from eighth seed, Mikhail Youzhny retiring in the second round, against Igor Andree, all the Top seven seeded players are still alive in the tournament. With the playing field deep in talent, the odds are naturally tight as the tournament pushes forward, so here is a look at some matchups with good value in tomorrow’s schedule of play.
Tennis Betting Line: Philip Kohlschreiber +180 Nikolay Davydenko -240
Match Time: 04:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday April 24, 2008
Tennis Prediction: Favored at -240, Nikolay Davydenko is a good play in this matchup. He arrives in Monte Carlo on the heels of a hard court season that saw him seize the coveted Sony Ericsson Open; and a clay court debut that received him as the runner-up in Estoril, Portugal. In head-to-heads though, Davydenko trails 1-2, with his most recent loss to Kohlschreiber coming on clay during Davis Cup duty in 2007. As such, Davydenko, despite bringing a 24-6 mark for the season, which improved to 25-6 with his victory over Boleilli in the second round, is not a steep favorite.
In turn, Kohlschreiber is an underdog with value; long shot pushers should take heed of the German, who weighs in at No.31 in the ATP rankings and arrived in Monte Carlo with a 13-7 mark (now 15-7) and one ATP title. Davydenko has a real chance of being upset in this round.
Tennis Free Picks: Kohlschreiber in three sets
Tennis Betting Line: Igor Andreev +180 Nicolas Almagro -240
Match Time: 04:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday April 24, 2008
Tennis Prediction: The favorite Nicolas Almagro of Spain is the better play in this matchup. Almagro finished runner-up last week at the VI Open de Tenis (l. to Ferrer). In 2008, he lifted two clay court titles – Costa do Sauipe and Acapulco and posted a 20-6 mark before arriving at the ATP Masters Series Monte Carlo. Although Almagro trails in head-to-heads 2-3 against Andreev, their last meeting was in 2006 at the Australian Open. Furthermore, he is a player brimming with confidence this year. Take Almagro at -240.
Tennis Free Picks: Almagro in straight sets
