The Spurs broke a 4 games straight-up as well as against the spread losing streak versus the Phoenix Suns last week. The Indiana Pacers are a mess straight-up but okay against the spread going 5 and 5 in their last 10. Both teams come into this game sort of doing okay against the spread. Will the Spurs take all of the good fortune they acquired during the Phoenix win and carry it over to this game?

First, some NBA Betting trends:

The San Antonio Spurs are 3 and 8 against the spread in their last 11 games as a favorite.

The San Antonio Spurs are 18 and 8 against the spread in their last 26 games playing on at least 3 days of rest.

The Indiana Pacers are 5 and 1 against the spread in their last 6 games versus a team from the Western Conference.

The HOME team is 7 and 0 against the spread in their last 7 games between the Indiana Pacers and the San Antonio Spurs.

The trends say Indiana, but the Spurs did beat the Suns last week. I can’t put too much stock into that victory, however, as the Spurs always seem to beat the Suns. Sure, the Suns are a good team, but so are the Spurs. The Spurs are good enough to know when they have to win and when they can sort of coast along and just do enough to win. You’re not going to see any of the Spurs laying out in this game.

That means that the young Pacers have a chance to keep this one close. The Pacers are without their best player, Jermaine O’Neal, but I don’t see that as an issue in this game. I think O’Neal is a terrific player but the rest of the Pacers are more than capable of keeping up with a Spurs’ team minus Tony Parker.

The needed intensity won’t be there tonight for the Spurs maintain a lead of 8 points or more. Because of that the Pacers look like a solid wager given the fact that they are getting over 6 points and get to play at home.

I’m taking the Pacers in tonight’s game.
