Political Futures Betting Action - U.S. Presidential Odds

by Eric Williams

The Truth, The Whole Truth And Nothing Else But the Truth About The 2008 U.S. Election For President

The views expressed below are those of the writer and general public only and are not associated with any political affiliations or views of BetUS.com.

While the majority of the sports betting community and Locker Room readers may recognize my name for the multitude of sports wagering articles that I write on a daily basis, like most U.S. citizens, I am totally aware of the approaching Presidential election and of the current and future ramifications that the election could hold for, not just the U.S. but for numerous countries, depending on the outcome of the nationwide voting which will take place this coming November.

While the Republican party has agreed that GOP nominee John McCain will run for the highest elected position in the country on its side of the ticket, the democratic nomination process has been an absolute historical battle between two candidates that could each make U.S. history if elected, in African-American senator, Obama Barack and female senatorial candidate, Hillary Clinton.

Of course, the incredibly ingenious political betting oddsmakers at BetUS have once again concocted some terrific Futures Odds, for bettors to earn some more money, this time, in the political arena.

With that said, let’s take a look at the 2008 U.S. Presidential Odds in the BetUS Sportsbook Futures Section, followed by my analysis and Presidential Odds Free Picks.

2008 Election Winning Party

Democrats -180

Republicans +140

Any Other Party +50000

Analysis: Without getting into my own personal party affiliation, (democrat) I’ll just say that, although the majority of the country is tired of having a republican in office after getting the shaft from current President George Bush for almost eight years now, I’m having a hard time seeing how the democrats are going to win this election when they continually allow its two best candidates to bring each other down another notch or two by using almost every political tactic known to mankind, both fair and foul.

Unfortunately, whichever democratic candidate is left standing in the other’s wake; they likely may not have enough energy or momentum left to fight off republican John McCain. I don’t believe I’m writing it, but the best bet here is to go with the republican party.

Political Pick: Republicans

Democrat Candidate

Hillary Clinton +800

Barack Obama -2000

Analysis: Let me ‘keep it real’ for a moment by saying what most Americans already know. Unlike other smarter countries, that have elected, either a person of color or a female to be their unquestioned leader, the United States is not … repeat not - ready for either.

However, since one of the two has to win, I’m going to go with Barack Obama since it seems like the democratic party suddenly wants the Illinois senator to win after nearly one year of campaigning against Clinton – during which time the former First Lady has repeatedly put foot in mouth during her suddenly withering campaign.

Political Free Pick: Obama Barack

To be Elected US President in 2008

Hillary Clinton +1000

John McCain +145

Barack Obama -175

Analysis: Alright BetUS bettors, let me get down to the ‘real deal’ by admitting what is undoubtedly the worst kept secret on the face of the planet – that both, racism – and sexism – are both, as alive and well in the United States as it was 70 or 80 years ago, despite the obvious changes that have taken place both, in the U.S. history and world history during that time.

While slavery is no longer legal in the United States and the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s changed a lot of the segregation that did exist in certain parts of the country, there is a ‘new age’ slavery taking place all over the U.S. that limits people of color in every professional field from sports writing to politics.

Not only that, but the level of sexism in the United States is nearly as rampant as it racism counterpart, though certainly not nearly as bad.

Not to get into a long-winded historical chronology, but every president or other leader who ever tried to close or end the racial divide altogether is either assassinated or labeled a ‘dream-chasing kook.’

From John F. Kennedy to Martin Luther King Jr. and the former Kennedy’s brother, Bobby, every American leader who was ‘for the people’ either met an unfortunate demise or was never elected to a difference-making position, (which is why Colin Powell said no thanks to the political arena).

Point blank bettors and Locker Room readers, the United States is not ready for either, a male president of color or a Caucasian female leader, no matter what anyone says to the contrary - which unfortunately leaves the U.S. with only one option – John McCain. Besides, at +145, how can you not take the ‘favorite?’
