NFL Odds - Green Bay Packers Betting Trends

One of the things that makes NFL wagering so challenging is the fact that a team can virtually change overnight. The New Orleans Saints were a great example last year. Every historical trend that occurred last year regarding the Saints ATS (against the spread) record was wiped away as the they, due to personnel changes, became an entirely different team.

That’s an obvious change that all NFL bettors should have recognized. However, sometimes, the changes are less obvious and in those cases, the astute NFL sports handicapper will have to do some digging to see the change.

One of the most powerful trends in past NFL years involves the Green Bay Packers. The Packers, according to the trend, are 6-72-1 against the spread when they lose straight up. This includes a very trend favoring 1-7 against the spread last year in games where they lost.

The trend, on paper, looks favorable this year as well, but believe it or not, the Packers looked like a team to reckon with in their win over the Philadelphia Eagles, and how many games they will lose this year cannot be truly calculated with any assurances.

BetUS NFL betting lines already reflect this understanding as the Packers, on the road, are + 1 underdogs versus the New York Giants this weekend.

It is true that the Giants will be playing without their starting quarterback, Eli Manning, but the fact that the Packers, a team with virtually no buzz during the summer are almost going off at even money against a team coming off a tough loss versus a superior team can mean one of only two things.

Either the loss of Manning is going to adversely affect the Giants more than any one really believes, or that the Packers are a much better team than anyone thought.

I tend to believe that the Green Bay Packers are a better team than anyone thought and that we may see a reverse trend, starting this weekend when they play the New York Giants. This trend could prove profitable for NFL bettors.

The Packers have games coming up against the San Diego Chargers, Denver Broncos, Washington Redskins, and Carolina Panthers. Many of those games are at home and they will be underdogs in many of those games. Unless they are hit by the injury bug, they have a chance to win most of the games, save for their game versus the Chargers, and it will interesting to see if the Packers not only beat the spread in the above games, but reverse the historical trend that has, for so many years, governed their NFL wagering existence.

NFL bettors need to think of trends as against the spread guides. They are sometimes very powerful guides, but guides nonetheless that can change on a moment’s notice. Pay attention to Packer games and NFL bettors may see a reverse trend that could hopefully make them some money.
