PGA Golf Betting – The Cost of Victory
by Tim Furious
I don’t know what’s more phenomenal – the fact that Tiger won the U.S. Open after an 18-hole playoff that went to sudden-death after nearly three months off, or the fact that Tiger generates so much torque that he split a stress fracture in his tibia after 91-holes of undoubtedly grueling golf.
Now Tiger Woods, the most feared competitor in the world of sports, is out for the remainder of the 2008 PGA betting season, which is bad for all of those that took Tiger as the eventual winner of the FedEX Cup. But now, the PGA field is as wide open as the Grand Canyon and everyone has to be excited about the fact that they can finally start making some profit. Nobody will be favored to win is year, so it’s free money as long as you place your bets properly.
The important thing in golf betting, especially if you’re superstitious, is watching the omens and signs that the golf world has provided you. What did Rocco Mediate prove? One simple, time honored, truth – every dog has his day. Mediate was able to hold a strong lead in the U.S. Open, until the glass slipper fell for this Cinderella and he imploded in sudden-death.
The problem is that no golfer outside of Tiger has shown consistency this season. Tiger’s four tournament victories, coupled with a runner-up finish at the Masters earlier this year, have him in a commanding lead to win the 2008 Jack Nicklaus Trophy. Unless somebody can win two majors this year, it’ll be hard to unseat Tiger Woods in our PGA futures as the eventual Jack Nicklaus Trophy winner awarded to the most outstanding golfer of the season. At the end of the day, four victories will be nearly impossible to match this season, especially considering the prestigious nature of Tiger’s wins.
So who is eligible to surpass Tiger this season? Who knows. It’s such a toss-up this year. Guys like Justin Rose and Steve Stricker have been disappointments this year for the most part, while no golfer other than second-ranked Phil Mickelson has won two tournaments this season.
The FedEX Cup and World Golf Championships are now anybody’s to take. Tiger’s absence may be more exciting than people imagine. Sure, it’s disappointing to see the game’s best go down with an injury, but it gives somebody in the field the chance to emerge as an heir apparent. Who’s it going to be? Let’s wait and see.
Game on.
