Bet on Golf Action - PGA Tour has first stop in California

There’s no Tiger Woods this week at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, but there is Meat Loaf. And Huey Lewis. And Kenny G and Alice Cooper. However, there are some actual PGA golfers participating in the annual, five-round pro-am event as well, and those planning on doing some golf betting for this week will note that Mike Weir is the favorite.

The Canadian, who won this event in 2003, finished fourth in the Mercedes-Benz Championship earlier this month and is pegged as the +1200 favorite. Weir, though, ended up in just 48th place at last season’s tournament, after shooting a final-round 76.

Another past champion is second on the BetUS golf odds list this week – Justin Leonard. The American was the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic champion back in 2005, and he’s listed at +1400 odds to win the event again this year. Scott Verplank is third on the odds list at +1600, where he’s tied with 2006 champion Chad Campbell. Stewart Cink, Lucas Glover, and Heath Slocum are all pegged at +2500, and will be looking for their first title.

Defending champion Charley Hoffman is listed at +3500 to go back-to-back at the event; Hoffman edged John Rollins (+5500) for the title in 2007. Other past champions in the field this weekend (at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, California) include Jesper Parnevik (+5500), Joe Durant (+6000), and Fred Couples (+7000). Here are the rest of the top odds to win the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic amidst all the celebs this weekend:

Chris DiMarco is listed at +6000 odds to claim the trophy at the PGA Tour’s event this weekend, but he’s actually a past winner of this week’s European Tour event – the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. DiMarco won the inaugural outing of this United Arab Emirates event back in 2006, but he’s decided to stay stateside for the pro-am tourney.

Last year’s Abu Dhabi Golf Championship winner was England’s Paul Casey, and he’s pegged at +1400 odds to win again this week. The tournament favorite, though, is Adam Scott at +1100 odds. Padraig Harrington is next at +1200 odds, with both Henrik Stenson and Lee Westwood at +1400 odds. Here are the rest of the top tourney lines:

And if the likes of Carson Daly, Jimmy Fallon, Michael Bolton, et al. aren’t enough to get your golf juices flowing this week you can always place a futures wager on one of the tour’s big guns. Woods is currently the big -1000 favorite to finish first on the PGA Tour’s money list this year, with Phil Mickelson back at +900 odds in second on the list.

Jim Furyk sits third at +1800, followed by Vijay Singh (+2200), K.J. Choi (+3500), Justin Rose (+4500), Adam Scott (+4500), and Steve Stricker (+4500). Zach Johnson, Aaron Baddeley, and Sergio Garcia are all listed at +6000 odds to claim the most cash in 2008. Check the BetUS golf betting odds section for all the latest tourney odds and prop bets.
