Online Tennis Betting - Barcelona Open Quarterfinal - Ferrer vs. Robredo

Barcelona, Spain – Tennis bettors have several interesting matchups to look forward to betting on in the Barcelona 2008 Open quarterfinal. By now, BetUS Sportsbook has released tennis odds for all the stellar matchups, so here is a look at one such exciting tennis betting prospect sports bettors can wager on.

Tennis Betting Line: Tommy Robredo +170 David Ferrer -220

Match Time: 06:00 AM EST, Friday May 2, 2008.

Analysis: David Ferrer reaches the final eight on the heels of an imperious opening match victory against Gabriel Trujillo-Soler 6-1, 6-1, and a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 comeback from behind win in the third round against Nicolas Lapenti. The in-form second seed, David Ferrer next faces compatriot and 2004 Barcelona champion Tommy Robredo. With both players hailing from Spain, home court advantage is cancelled out.

Ferrer -220 David Ferrer holds a 2-1 edge over Robredo, having recently defeated Robredo in Valencia, en route to winning the title. Although Ferrer seized the victory, Robredo forced him to three sets 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 before bowing out. At -220, the inform Ferrer, who brings a 20-7 mark for the year into his match, is a good play for the win. Based on his season in 2008, few would bet against him.

However, as a side note, Ferrer holds a 1-5 mark in quarterfinals this year, having advanced through to the semi-final in Valencia only – which is also his city of residence.

Robredo +170 As Valencia is Ferrer’s home patch; Barcelona is Robredo’s turf. The Barcelonan has a second shot at Ferrer this year and an opportunity to avenge his loss in the quarterfinal of Valencia in his hood. At +170, Robredo is an underdog with good value and should he string together a mercurial game, he could knock the dogged Ferrer of his stride.

Before the clay-court season, Robredo struggled to factor in tournament play. However, since his first clay-court event, Robredo has been on an upward ascent. Robredo defeated Guillermo Canas in the third round, to reach the final eight. He improves to 11-8 for the year. More importantly, Robredo celebrated his 26th birthday today, and what better present to give himself, than to continue his winning streak in Barcelona.

Overall, Ferrer may be the better player and the bettor’s choice, but I cannot help but recommend Robredo for the upset.
